Spider-Man Film Series to be Rebooted A.K.A Marvel on Crack

Okay so here's how it goes, you may or may not know that for the last year or so, Spider-Man 4 has been in development. They had done the casting, written the script and were preparing for Principal Photography.

Suddenly Marvel have turned around and said...

"We're going to reboot the Spider-Man Franchise instead in 2012"

Why?

They've been smoking crack is my best guess....

Here's the article: http://www.superherohype.com/news/spide ... hp?id=8976

What do I think of this?

I think that this is one the dumbest things a movie studio has ever done. This isn't like Batman where the series had drifted so far from it's origins and so far from Batman that it death and reboot was the only option. This wasn't a case of time as with Superman. This isn't like Bond as with series fatigue, or Star Trek, the same reason. This isn't a lack of money, Spider-Man 3 grossed over $900m. This MAKES NO SENSE. It is not logical from any point of view.

this makes perfect sense: spider man 3 sucked donkey sperm and they realize that they need to take a long time and think if they want to spawn another monstrosity like that on society

money means nothing to most commercial producers and writers; they know any thing spider man is going to sell, so this time they want to make a favorable film that doesnt just scream mainstream.

batman DID go through this as well; the films made loads of money but started to become really horrible; dc takes a step back and re-invents it through the christian bale batman: academy awards ensue.

tobey mcguire is a really bad spider man and they should drop him if they really want to progress forward in the series.

iron man 2 is also coming out so even if sm4 was released it would be terrible and probably not hold a candle to it anyways; thats all marvel fans need this year imo.

Yes but this makes no sense, they're asking to have their audience alienated. I bet this movie will make about $600 maybe $700m AT BEST. I'm sorry but Spider-Man 1 and 2 were good. They were by no means masterpieces, but they were good. Spider-Man 3, was not. But it was not Batman & Robin, Superman IV, Star Trek Nemesis or Die Another Day, nor should it be treated as such. Hell it wasn't even as bad as X-Men 3 and that never got a reboot, just prequels... lots of prequels.

Spider-Man 4 they had clean slate, loose ends have been tied up, they have a villain lined up in The Lizard, they could have done a tight and good story like the first movie. They had established characters, half decent actors, a good director. And yeah, Spider-Man 3 wasn't that great, but let's face it not everything Raimi has to touch has to turn to gold, one bad movie doesn't annhilate the movies that came before it, especially if a good fourth movie is made.

1+2 werent bad, ill agree. 1 was great imo; it set the series up perfectly but then it fell through (like the matrix). 2 was decent, but im not agreeing with 3. It was garbage, and totally deserves to be in the list of those films you mentioned. Also, its Spider man; they could wait 10 years and the audience wouldnt deviate one bit. Its that popular of a franchise.

as for 4, it sounds pretty cool from what youre saying! Im an avid SM fan (i only dislike the movies) and would love to see a well done film. these days though, you have to cater to the audience, and apparently mediocrity is what Marvel likes to dish up.

and yeah xmen got a second chance and RUINED IT so you dont even have to mention it, its already won the academy award for shit.

Okay I do dislike SM3, but really, are you seriously comparing it to the childhood raping movie that is Batman and Robin? Come on... Bat Credit Card... Arnold as Mr. Freeze.... Clooney as the Caped Crusader....

ahahahah i totally forgot about the bat credit card

the point of that movie was to be a throwback to the old school bat man but they failed miserably

plus joel shoumocker is a giant faggot and contributed more to the body armor than to the film's acting and writing, apparently :(

Thing is as bad as SM3 might have been Atlet, the series hadn't been so diluted. Batman by Tim Burton was great, it might not have been true to the comics like say Batman Begins, but it was a great and dark movie. Three films later, Batman & Robin... yeah... let's not go into that. Superman by Richard Donner as incredible, many people even say it's BETTER than the comics, three films later.... Superman IV... ehm... Nuclear Man.... right... Masonry Vision.... what?

These series needed reboots and it was eight years before they rebooted Batman and as for Superman we're still waiting for a reboot sort of, unless you count Returns, which was a retcon, not a reboot.

SM3, was still in the same style as SM1 & 2 it just crammed 3 different movies into one movie and it became a jumbled mess of Saturday Night fever dancing with some let's face it, pretty good action scenes. It at least was a continuation of the story.

Now, it's 2010, eight years since Spider-Man (2002). We don't need to see his origins, we saw them less than a decade ago! We don't need to see him as a teenager we've done that. There's nothing from the comics that can really be expanded on, we don't need to see the infamous Green Goblin-Sophie's Choice scene, we've seen it.

I am still hoping this is some kind of very early April Fools joke.

show me someone in their audience who liked tobey macguire and I'll show you a liar

also you're thinking that this reboot will constitute rehashing every plot point in the same basic style as the old movies

consider the differences between Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Begins and you will see what a reboot really looks like

honestly this spiderman has been shit for almost its entire run, imo. bad actor, mediocre writing, lots of angsting about NOOOOO UNCLE BEN and none of spiderman's old wisecracking. why would the audience want a shitty sequel with all the old boring characters over something potentially new?

still though when I hear SPIDUH-MAYN I expect a thirty-year-old dude who still lives with his aunt and cracks jokes at villains

not some prepube with his face consistently frozen in a mask of incredulity and angst written on his forehead

Well I'm sorry Mawk but what else CAN they do? They've done the central dramatic moments in his life all very recently. Less than a decade ago, with Burton and Begins there was sixteen years between those movies and even still you had a few people asking "do we really need to see this?" If they take the drama and angst out of Spider-Man all that's left is a wise-cracking idiot, who quite frankly is not a likeable character because his wisecracking comes from a defensive standpoint against the drama in his life.
