Some art from my games(Warning image heavy)

This some art I did for two of my games. My game Orion X for RPG Maker VX Ace and the remake of my RPG Maker VX game Eternal Destiny. I just want to see what you guys think before I use some of them in my games. Also these are NOT for public use so please do not use them. I'm sorry if I wasn't suppose to post these here. I just want some feed back on them. Also if anyone thinks something is off about one or more of the pictures please be nice and constructive don't be mean or rude. I am still trying to improve I try to draw every day.

Some of them have my name I use at other forums on them or my deviant art name. The ones from Eternal Destiny have my real name on them.

This is the stuff for Eternal Destiny:

EternalDestinyCutScene1of1withsignature_zps404f5af2.png

This is one of the scenes from the Eternal Destiny remake in RPG Maker VX. It kind of got stretched a little when I resized it in Photoshop to 544x416 even though I held down the shift button after setting a new canvas to 544x416 and pasting it in there then using free transform. Sorry if it looks bad or weird.

This is the stuff for Orion X:

This guy goes by the name Insane. I cannot tell you his real because of game spoilers.

Here is a picture of Jade and Insane fighting each other.

I will be posting more when I get time.

You might want to turn off the pen pressure for your contour lines. Or just be mindful of your line weight. It should be fairly consistent. Tapered lines are fine for inner details, folds, creases, or bulges. But the contour, the outside, should be solid and the lines shouldn't shrink into nothing when they end or intersect another line. Try to maintain a crisp and clean line art.
Otherwise it looks more like a calligraphy or brush drawing, which isn't the look I think you were going for.

I don't want to say too much about anything else. Something about about the shoulders and chests seemed really big. I think it's because you aren't drawing the abdomens long enough. So the Chest and Shoulders end up as half the upper body.

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't reply last night because I would have said the wrong things. I know you were nice and constructive. It's just I have been drawing for over ten years and it feels like I'll never get it right with anything I draw. I do look at pictures to see how things would look and, I do look at anatomy books, I took a figure illustration class where you draw nude models and it just doesn't seem to work for me. Sometimes I got so upset I want to give up but I really don't mean that I want to give up. I just feel like I'll never get it right. It has nothing to do with what you said so don't worry about what you said.

You should try using a different colour for your outline, I've seen a lot of artists improve by simply avoiding blacks, you can't describe light with a totally black colour and light is the most important factor in images (It's how we see them :U )

My other suggestion is you should pick an ambient light colour, shadows in real-life aren't 50% black, shadows are actually coloured by reflected light. By adding an ambient light your pictures will instantly look awesome.

And example would be; your characters with purple hair and white clothes, make the shadows on their clothes that are towards the head a dark purple rather than a grey.

You can test this in real-life, get a white piece of paper and a bright object (Like an orange or red ball) and move it so it casts a shadow on the paper, then bring the object closer to the paper and inspect the colour of it's shadow.
If you are looking out for this you'll notice that shadows out on the street in a sunny, cloudless day have a blue-tinge, this is the light reflected from the atmosphere (Which reflects as blue here on Earth).

Ps. I'm guessing you like anime because of those eyes, there are some excellent sources of anime images out-there, inspect how they deal with light, shadows and outlining in those.
Here's an image from Sakura Trick: http://randomc.net/image/Sakura%20Trick ... e%2009.jpg
Notice that the outlines don't use a solid black colour, the outlines inherit a darker tone than the shadows but aren't a solid black, generally with anime the outline for white clothing takes the colour of the character's hair (Not always the case).

People on game making websites will always responding with ways to improve your art. They're not saying your art is bad or putting your art down, they're saying it because they're fellowing developers and want to help. You don't have to take their advice or want it and you don't have to change your artwork based on their sayings. That said I think your art is nice and I'd like to play your game.

Thank you, By the way what color should I use for the lines? I'm not completely sure what will look right.
A darker colour than what is underneath is usually good, so if you're doing red hair use dark red lines.

What most people do is draw the picture in rough in a colour like grey or blue and then colour it in after the lines are drawn, then go over and do the outlines on-top of the block colours.

That works but what if some one has silver hair like my character Sengal? I don't completely understand what you mean by blocking colors. That saying has always confused me. Could you show me a sample please if possible? As sample with silver hair so I know how to make it look right?

I'm not an artist but I'll try to communicate the process I am talking about.
Excuse my poor hand

First step is rough outline, I used a light blue, it is suggested to use a light colour so your brain doesn't think "This is final, I will not change anything". If you look you will see evidence where I used the eraser, I used it a lot.
one.png

I then picked my outline colour, I used a dark-red to contrast the bow (Which I planned to make pink) and the skin colour as they were the dominant blocks, the grey hair you wanted is a softer colour so my outline couldn't be a shade of that.
two.png

I then filled in with colour layer 1, I didn't use grey for the hair because I am using a blue sky as my ambient light source, I change the hair colour a bit in post at the very end.
three.png

I then block in shadows, because the sky was my ambient light source I tinted all my colours towards blue, so the pink bow went to a dark purple, the light blue-grey went to a dark blue.
four.png

Then I lazily added in specular (Reflected light) highlights in the hair to communicate the direction the hair flows, dots on the bow for detail, and gave it some cute cheeks with a dark purple for the marks on the cheeks (Extra detail).
five.png

Finally in-post I tinted the hair to better match a grey, there is still a strong tint of blue, all I did was move the slider more towards green and red to desaturate it slightly.
recol.png

In hindsight, I prefer the stronger blue tint so I would probably lighten the grey even more
So the blocking of colours is the layering on top, there is no gradient it's just definite blocks. With anime in 2014 gradients have come back into fashion along side detail patterns (Like dots and stripes to communicate shade), it's up to you what style looks better.

A lesson I learnt from texturing 3D models; If you need shades of grey...avoid using grey!

I redid Sengal's picture. I didn't use black at all for the outlines, but I did what you explained. I just hope did right.

I am aware that orange in the hair may look weird but I was examining a different anime picture with silver hair and it had a hint of orange in the hair.

...

The orange would have been their choice of ambient light.

Do you think your new version is an improvement? It's all up to you if you think it is or isn't. Personally I think it looks awesome!

I think it is an improvement I just don't want others to think I'm bragging about it. I know I am not the best artist in the world but I still keep trying until I get something to look how I want it. :)
