That? It's not actual hologram, it's more like a real-time special effect, where there are a bazillion camera filming the person so you get every angle, then calculated and added on screen. So yeah, the host doesn't see her.

I'm not sure about that one, looks like an effect; but the StarWars-esque holograms already exist exactly the same way George Lucas envisioned them. They get a really thin, flexible TV screen, and make it move up and down at an incredibly high speed, changing what is on the screen to form a 3D image. And it forms the blue and white shape, with lines going up and down it, exactly as it does in Star Wars. (It's as if Lucas knew exactly how they'd be made in the future, scary).
