hey guys i'm probably going to be getting a new phone tonight and i would love some advice

my current phone is your regular fancy flipping touchscreen thing with a browser and all but it's not a technical smartphone because it doesn't do apps and all that. so i'm needing to get a new phone anyway and im thinkin about MANNING UP and getting something smart

thing is i admittedly know VERY LITTLE about cellphone stuff. i've never been a big phone person (i HATE HATE HATE talking on the phone).

do iphones (not just iphones but everything) have like irc apps? i mean i'm ALREADY in irc 24/7 but to keep it with me on the go would be the shit. also instant messagings and whatnot? tell me about apps i know there's lots of goofy stuff out there but is it really worth it or just get a regular phone with texting and whatnot.

also if it matters i'm on Verizon but im not asking for specific phone recommendations so much as TALK TO ME ABOUT SMARTPHONES and maybe even use this as an oppurtunity for a thread for all you to talk about how cool your ph0nez are. :thumb:

if you want shit to work, no hassle, and are willing to pay, get an iphone. it has irc apps too, idk if those are in the app store, but you will want to jailbreak it anyway, for free apps.

otherwise get an android phone, lots of customization, less expensive. I myself have a htc desire, running android. I like it because of the customization. The iOS is just so screwed shut that you cant even change unput methods (ie to swype, or another smart keyboard) on a whim. Not fun

if you want an android phone get a new dual core one running android 2.3. htc sensation or samsung galaxy s2 are good candidates.

yeah im a huge google fan anyway so i am favoring android over the iphone anyway. also everyone seems to have a really hard time with iphones autocomplete and i dont want that i want my typos to remain intact they are how i express m ;yselprf

also, android has all apps too. and btw, there are lots of apps for free texting and callng using internet, so if you know other people with smartphones dont bother with expensive texting-focused subscriptions, but go for decent internet.

the gist of it: smartphones are small computers, almost everything is possible, depending on the amount of work you are willing to do for it. i once downloaded torrents with my ipod touch, for example.

I got an iPod touch and a £10 Nokia. My reasoning: the Nokia is solid and will never break; whereas a £x a month smartpony will become outdated and be on a contract and end up costing more anyway.

I have an HTC and love it. Mine is the HTC Aria (android). I rooted it and installed Gingerbread on it. Its fast and does everything I need without trouble. Be sure to go install the Amazon (free app of the day) app, so that you can get all sorts of good games/apps. I mean, they just had Plants Vs Zombies on it a few days ago.

i've used the BF's droid a few times but i REALLY hate browsing on it. i can't read that small ass shit and zooming is a bitch, and the screen of it gets super smudged and my OCD'ness can't fucking handle that.

i have an old ass LG Shine and i even sort of hate IT ... I miss that piece of shit little flipphone I used to have, but it broke and the people at the phone place laughed at me when I wanted another one >:V

i text people like MAYBE 30 texts/month and get about 5 calls a month, on a good month. Dude I just really really hate phones.

I mean it has some cool features but I am hardly on my phone
I mean I guess it would be great for travel and stuff like that

Also, I agree about not liking phones. I don't really mind texting because its convenient and quick and dirty
but I dont get how you can talk on the phone

I hate them too, i dont even have my phone active. I baught a samsung messenger touch for 160 frickin bucks and only use it for music. its nice but i just use my wifes phone for all of my calls

lol! I am common law married now. My girlfriend and I have been living together for a long time now so we decided to fill out bunch of paper work become husband and wife. we file everything as spouses and such, and we actually are getting rings in fall
