The face is pretty darn awesome, although I can't help but feel like he's kinda sad-looking. Maybe it's because he's half-naked? :p

What I'd recommend is changing the perspective of the feet (most resources in RMXP are semi-top-down, and his feet indicate the idea that he's looking @ you head-on. Also the arm length is quite short. If you stand up, you'll notice your fingertips stop about a third down your thighs.

Shading's nice, though :thumb:

I can't help feeling that the head is from those "Dolls" that people pixel on the internet - the entire template feels somewhat similar.

But damn! That's great - your template is excellent and the sample sprite of your character is superb.

Maybe it's because bigish templates with big heads are easily molded into new shapes thus making it easier to make a variety of characters?

I have another couple of nit-picks (I'm quickly becoming the jerk of the board I fear, but it's better early, before a crapload of sprites are made w/ it):

  • The nose? mouth? on his face is rather unclear. Most of us are not used to seeing noses and mouths on 2D sprites so I sorta think it'd look better either without it, or with an accompanying nose or mouth (whichever it isn't). If it's a mouth it's too high and if it's a nose it's a little too big.
  • The legs are either really muscular (which is doubtful considering the thinness) or the knees are ridiculously small. Consider bringing the knees out a pixel on either side. People always draw knees really small but if a person were set up that way they'd have a hard time balancing and would have bad knee problems.
Otherwise, the shading is perfect, I super love the cute little boxer shorts, the anatomy of the chest is spot-on, and I look forward to a female to accompany him :#

Female coming soon Venetia! :D I'll take all that other stuff into consideration. Good suggestions. I'll also try to make some head variations for those who don't like the chibi stylings of the template.

The line is a nose, and it's bugging me too. I'll try shading it to one side maybe.

And don't feel like you are being a jerk by offering helpful suggestions! ^^ I appreciate them.
