Skill Points

Is there a way to implement a skill points system?  Such as, Player X gains Y amount of skill points every level, with which he can apply to learn new skills of his choice?  (Ala D&D, Dragon Quest VIII, World of Darkness, and most other RPGs).

Unless you wanted to create some very clunky system with events, which is possible but, y'know, stupidly clunky, I'd make a script request.

With a script, it's definitely possible.
 
I know of a Script that does exactly this, made by Synthesize and I do have it on my game currently. But I do not know if i am allowed to post it as it is not mine, and only works on XP. So are you requesting this for VX or XP?
 
my suggestion, go look at the game called, The Enemy Within by Eharper256. His game is at v. 0.7 I think, you may want to see if the v. 0.8 is out yet, because he implimented excatly what you are talking about. In his game, he has a script by Blizz called StatStimulation. The script basically disables the level-up system so that you no longer level up. You still recieve all of the exp, but it is just not applied to the characters lvl. You may want to contact him about his system for ideas or use of that script.

As for Danny, if you upload the project with just the one script, it is fine as long as there is proper credit given to the author of the script...
 
Great advice everyone, thanks!  xgamexfreax, I am actually looking for the characters to continue leveling up, but what I'm wanting to do is basically have somewhat of a "classless" system, and the characters can choose what kinds of skills and abilities they learn.

Danny, my game is XP, so that wouldn't be an issue.  I would love to hear some details about your script if it's okay with the author, to see if it would do what I'm wanting.

Unka Josh, I did assume it would need to be a script, so I'll work out the fine details and post a request.

If you're fine with using a script for this, then disregard this message.  I just thought you should know that an event system would work pretty easily for this, with a little extra baggage, that is.  And you WOULD need a script that will report variable numbers unless you wanted a LOT of eventing and a class trainer to tell you what your skills are every time the player wants to know.  (A hassle indeed.)  This would be a lot like the Runescape skill system, where you level each skill up by using it.

EDIT:  I would highly suggest a script however;  for maximum performance. ; )
