Skie's sprite stuff

Okay, so I didn't think I'd ever bother to make a topic, but I do need some help at the moment, I can also just showcase some old stuff at the same time. Win/win.

Anyway, old/unrelated stuff first. Feel free to critique, I don't mind. Just don't use anything please.

And now, what I need help with.

You see this idle animation? It's horrible right?

Well, I'm currently lost as to how to make this not suck. So, I'm asking for direct help of anyone who can handle it.

Here are the frames themselves.

Please and thank you.

The knees are bending to forward on the forward motion. The feet should be doing a small movement (up/down or left/right). And the hair should sway a little bit with the movement.

You forgot to mention that, due to the fact that the legs appear to keep changing width, it looks as though the legs are moving too randomly.

yeah on the second frame, the right leg is to wide

also the highlight on the left leg in the first few frames isn't quite right, play around with it a bit

these are great! Don't be too hard on yourself skie. The legs look fine to me.:/ I am sure Green Raven could find something wrong with them

I just love how these were made. They are made real well. Would you be taking request?

No.

Anyway, I've made some progress on the guy.

And then here we have a base technique I thought up last night to help with animation. A series of dots to represent the sprite in motion. Just make the sprite around the dots to make things easier. Not sure how well it works, but I'll see once I do it.

What is with the Michael Jackson leen (why can't I spell today?)?
Honestly he is already sort of leaned forward so I'd actually try going the other way.

The only real issue I have with your works are your inconsistancy.
What I mean is some of the characters hair flows with the movement whilst others stay perfectly still.

That and some of the posses, that last guys major problem is if he were to fight in the stance he is in now he would be dispatched in no time!

Not bad though!

It's almost as if your last guy can bend his left leg to the right and left, on top of bending it forward. This is probably because of the way you shaded it; the shading on the left leg jumps down by 4 or 5 pixels all of a sudden, then moves back after 3 frames. If you changed the 4 or 5 pixels of extra shading into 1 or 2 pixels of extra shading, it would fix the problem it has right now.

Other than that, I can't really add much. The main issue the guy has is the Michael Jackson pose, so I suggest fixing that first.

I would seriously considder dropping the diagonal line on the face and curving it up a bit. The hair should come over the eyes not the other way around, dont get too wrapped up in anime, big eyes are cool, but don't forget that they dont float :)

Good work.

Is it really that jarring? I'm not exactly trying to be realistic here, but I can give the next ones a shot at that if so.

I want to keep the eyes visible, so they're above the hair. Consider it a stylistic choice. Not everything has to be realistic. I appreciate the advice though.

Anyway, progress.

this is cool too bad you waste your talent doing anime jrpg sprites

Merely the style I've chosen to work with. And they will be used for something. I wouldn't waste my time making them if they weren't.
