We have recently had a large amount of people join the forum just for the purpose of placing advertisements in their signatures, with dud post content (often copied from elsewhere). This has been isolated to the Video Games forum for some reason. It appears they aren't bots but actual people, so there is little we can do prevention wise, but clearup we can do. Just be aware before you go typing lengthy replies to help someone. Some common threads are vague questions about Pokemon (what starter should I choose? etc).
I'm going to advise some things.
1. Report it
If you see something you think is just a spammer, report it using the report feature and we'll get right on it.
2. Don't Reply
Don't reply if your reply is just "this is a spammer" or "go away spammer", etc. It isn't particularly useful, and makes us look bad.
3. If you do want to reply...
If you think the thread can be turned into a good discussion, then go ahead, there's no real problem with that. We'll just remove the advertisements from the rogue user's signature.
Clarification on rules
There is no problem with having links in your signature, as a general, contributing user.
However, joining solely to advertise your website, and creating nothing but useless threads to do so, is not allowed, and you will have your account and posts removed. There is no problem coming here for advice; but posting a support thread when you don't actually need the answer (normally, copying posts from other support forums and such) wastes space and our time.
Generally, I am going to advise this: if the thing you're advertising in your signature isn't a game, or something to do with gaming, then you must post some relevant content around the site before doing so. Otherwise, we are going to assume you are just here to advertise Free Viagra Now and remove your account.
For the future
Any actual coding to sort this issue would be irrelevant soon ( :dog: ) but if it becomes a real problem we'll look into it.
