Side View Battler WIP (Opinions wanted)

Im working on using my Gyme template as battlers for ccoa's Side View Battle System. While most who have seen my current attempt have said it looks okay, I wanted to have that question answered by the spriting community in order to make certain it is visually okay.

Im not so much looking for views on the art style itself, but whether or not you think the image animates well within the game. This pose has the knees bending and the arm holding the sword swaying in and out from behind the main body. Let me know if these animations look okay to you.

This is my first time dealing with battlers, and all I'm doing is taking my sprites and editing them with battle stances. That was the best pose I was able to make for the ready animation using that sprite. Now all I'm trying to do is make his motions look decent.

For a side view battle, you shouldn't have his body facing forward. Also because of that, the head is placed too far back. Kinda looks like his neck is on his back. >_<

Mm, I agree with the head. Maybe try and redirect his head so that its indicated in a slanted position, so you dont have to edit the body.

Ahh, I see. If you just directed his slightly more to the front, then I think it would make up for the stance.

maybe try it like the old Final Fantasy style.

First make one leg facing to the left, then copy that leg and past it over the first leg and move it a bit to the lower right. Make a square body have one arm a little lower and to the right, and the other arm behind the body. You know.. like FF5

That's more of a 4/5 view but it should be easy to make.

I gave a try at what you suggested, but I find that I prefer the original battle stance. I should note that not all of my battlers will be having the same stance, and I think that this one is right considering the weapon he is using. From this stance, when I do the attack animation, I can have him do a larger overhead swing, which would show him turning to his side and then back on from the screen to finish the animation.

Which would work well. I think the battle stance is just right as well, that's why I didn't suggest changing the way he stood. It's still pretty good. Can't wait to see the attack animation. :) Good luck.
