Before I write anything here I decided I should explain why this story and all the other ones that might come seem so out of place: during my time at some random classes I usually try to create something to distract my mind and keep myself busy; these stories will most likely be tied to one another later on, but they are all products of separated sources of inspiration and separated (chronologically) inside the whole tale.
Now for the stories:
Please, give some constructive criticism. I know my writing style is awkward and simple, but that's how I write.
Now for the stories:
Part 1
The Verdant Capital witnessed it's last days of prosperity and peace during a week that would mark the history of the world. Rumors of a Revolution were whispered at every bar, tavern and inn that could be found in the many districts of the city; the sky grew darker after each day, as if a cloud was about to cover the whole Capital in sadness, despair and death.
The exhaustive war with Crecy that endured for so many years had finally come to an end, leaving deep scars in the society and a powerful rebel movement in the Kingdom.
Every day that passed, the movement's shadow grew larger, and the sky, along with it, became darker. The soldiers that had survived the war were all called to arms once more, as the Revolution approached the Capital. Little by little, the government lost ground until only the Cecilian Range was left in their command. The last bastion of the once glorious Kingdom, Horizon Keep, was to stand tall against the incoming threat.
On that fateful Wednesday, two men sat atop the highest tower of the keep, looking at the morning sun. Roland held in his right hand a scroll that had just arrived.
- Looks like this is their final message.
To all those that oppose the Revolution and the Nameless Knight: your lives will be taken by our swords. No prisoners will be made. Despair and sorrow shall be spread like a disease among you. Know this, o soldiers of a fallen kingdom, death awaits you!
- Their confidence is impressive, isn't it? Despite of it, how many soldiers did we manage to get here, Roland?
- Barely over ten thousand.
- So there's not much hope anymore, is there my friend?
- Many citizens have fled to the Merces Archipelago and the Outer Rings, we should have done the same while we had the time, now it's too late.
Suddenly, a soldier rushed through the stairway that led to the top of the tower. Looking at his garments, he was a scout. Looking at his face, he was a man filled with fear.
- Sir Argent, they are coming! They will be here in less then eight hours! I-I-I saw them... - before he could finish his report, horror was spread in the man's face.
- Calm down, soldier! Tell us what you saw!
- Sir, o-o-o-one of their knights took out a pack of eight Ether Stalkers. That thing wasn't a man, I tell you! It had a black armor and carried a sword reminiscent to yours, sir. A single slash of that weapon enveloped those monsters in a thick black fog. I heard their screams. Their agony resounded everywhere, their pain was capable of piercing a mountain of solid rock. But the worst part is this: that knight absorbed the ether those monsters liberated. They are coming through the Merchants Trail, from the northwest. - after a brief pause - Sir Argent, what shall we do?
Silence.
- Alex? Are you listening? - asked Roland.
- Thank you, soldier. Capt. Chainsong, assemble all men at the front gate. Tell Capt. Windblow and Capt. Islander to gather all the captured ether based creatures we have in the keep and bring them to Farson Outpost. They shall go there and stay with their units until our arrival. I'll announce our strategy once everyone is ready. Dismissed!
- Yes, sir! - replied both men.
Part 2
Following Gen. Alexander Argent's orders, all men were assembled at the front gate, the ether beasts were taken to the outpost and only five hours were left until the battle began.
- Knights of the Feyan Kingdom, hear me! Your courage and bravery have been of great service to the people, but now they shall be tested once more! The threat we now face corners our hopes and devastate our lands; it's time to be brave, to be strong, to fight once more, to fight this decisive battle and guarantee the safety of our families! We shall strike them on two fronts. The first one will be led by Brigadier Maximilian Godwin. This group will take the Merchant's Trail until they arrive in the Howling Peaks and wait until the enemy enters the gorge that separates both mountains, preparing an ambush for them. The other group consist of me, Capt. Chainsong, Capt. Windblow, Capt. Islander and their respective units. We will head for Farson Outpost to hold off a secondary enemy group that detached from the main force.
Let's reclaim our homeland, my fellow soldiers! For the King, and for our future!
Part 3
Quickly traveling to the assigned points, both units established themselves, and only two hours were left. Over nine thousand man were at the Peaks, while a few hundreds were at the Outpost.
- Alex, what are you planning to do here? - asked Capt. Windblow.
- Tina, the knight that our scout spotted was none other then the Nameless Knight. That bastard absorbs ether into himself, he's drawn to great quantities of it. If we can generate a big field of ether around us, we could draw his attention and fight him without risking too many of our men.
- Looks like our Alex turned out to be a good General after all, doesn't it? To think that you never wanted to be in the Army in the first place sure is ironic.
- You know I'm not doing this because I like to do it Eslam. - said the general to Capt. Islander. - We have to amplify these monsters' internal energy now if we want to be sure that the Nameless Knight comes for us.
- Alex! Wait! Don't waste our time!
- Why should we wait any longer, Roland?
- Because he's here. - said the captain, pointing to the west.
A heavy dust cloud could be seen in the distance. An ominous presence could be felt. Without a doubt, the cursed being had come. The storm was about to begin.
