shapes in GIMP?

This is another thing I have never been able to figure out. Isn't there any way to make shapes in GIMP? Like squares, circles, etc...I can't find that tool anywhere!

You can't find it because Gimp hasn't got this feature.
It's something that always annoyed me...
You have to use paths or use the selection tools.
If you want more information you can read something about it here
For other shapes like volutes etc I always used brushes.

That's so weird. There's something that Paint can do that GIMP can't? :P
