Shadows & reflections

I was perusing the downloads section when I saw Berserker's posting of Rataime's multi-script demo. The reflections and shadows looks absolutely fantastic, and it seems to calculate the shadows somehow since they're not in there as a character set! I don't know how it works, though, or what it takes to set up things for reflections and all - the post contents disappeared with the hack and I didn't find an explanation within the demo.

Anyone know where I should go look to find a proper explanation? A basic search for reflection only brought up Berserker's original, now empty post.
