Shadowball's Flags

What kind of stupid response is that? the question is "what do you think", give some more feedback than "no"

The first one, I like the red to black fade, and the overall thing is nice, but the Gecko? What's with the gecko?

The second, while not bad, dosen't look like a "flag", you know? Perhaps texture these, or if you're showing them as flags try to make it curve at places (you know, like make it look like a flag in the wind)

Actually, i see why they look so odd.
Compare yours to http://www.american-flags-and-american- ... usflag.jpg See the difference? If you can't, I'll tell you. First of all, one's your flag and one's an american flag, their totally different. If you didn't see that one than you need your eyes checked. Secondally, the American flag isn't so bright, you know? Try dulling yours down so it looks less like a parachute (lol)

i didnt feel it deserved the feedback, no was enough
then why bother posting?
Edit by Venetia: I deleted the off-topic posts.

@topic
yea, I agree, try adding some curve so it looks like it was blown by wind

Tuti, keep that up and I can guarantee that you will be banned pretty quickly. Everything deserves feedback because no matter what, there is always room to improve. Replies like that are just spam/trolling as they don't contribute to the discussion at all. If you want to be a dick while giving criticism, you're more than welcome to. But just saying "no" isn't going to be tolerated.

Shadowball, can you give some more context to the flags? How are they used, what do they represent, etc? It's hard to give feedback on them as they are.

well, sles might be right after all... but I didn't use photoshop...
I was thinking if the flags looked too flat, no one would consider them as what they are, because there was no undulation or something like that...
even if I don't criticize a national flag, I don't like the american flag at all. it includes too many bars (I know they related to some historical facts), but I think the stars are ok.
I edited the first post so you get a better idea.

I don't really see the point of making it "flow in the wind".  A flag only looks like that...when it's windy.

They look perfectly fine to me.

Are people forgetting that flags are actually really simple designs? Look at Japan's flag...white with a red circle. You can do that in paint in less than 5 seconds.

To get them to look more like flags, remove and gradients and blending that you used, and go with solid colors.

i think the flags shouldnt have gradients and blur
Any they can, but flags arn't shiny like his. If he dulled them, they'd look great.

Shadowball, look as a shirt with a design on it and base your colors off that, you know? Unless you have parachute pants, then they might look like your flags.

I guess you're enjoying this in some weird manner... So you think I should dull them. mmm I'll take note of that suggestion.

Well, even if this thread was forgotten long time ago, I'm still making flags... So I'd like to show you some other flags and their variations now. I may also say that the 2nd and 4th flags include the old New Geckoshire flag in it's design without the well known gecko...

Hmm... I really don't like the fact that you've outlined the rectangle.
Look, first things first - let's decide what a flag IS.
A flag is a visual representation of what that country/region/whatever IS and DOES.
Let's take some quick examples.
http://www.fma-world.com/flag_indonesia.jpg[/img]
This is the flag of the country of Indonesia. The red represents the blood shed during rebellion, and the white represents the peace that occurred afterwards, which is why it's below it.
Flags may look simple, but there's a lot of logic behind them.
Or take the Greek flag.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ce.svg.png[/img]
The cross represents Greek Orthodox Christianity, the religion that has shaped Greece in modern times.
The nine stripes correspond to the nine syllables in Eleftheria Thanatos, or literally, 'Freedom or Death'. The colors represent the Greek sea and sky.

But the big thing for flags? They should be SIMPLE. A minimum of complicated detail, like that outline on the central rectangle in yours.
Ideally, you want something that a small child could draw and still have it resemble the flag.

Hope this helps you fix these up to be slightly more realistic.

eh, gratheo, there was no need to explain that anymore (they already ask for a reason...), but thanks for the explanations / examples. As a matter of fact I just forgot to mention what they represent... Oh well, here it comes.

The first and third flag represent a kingdom, Alirdyse or place of awakening, this land is trying to recover from a previous civil war that made the old republic fall apart. The first one includes red because of the bloodshed led by "brothers" against "brothers" so to say, the yellow (it should be gold) represents the sun, well, the two suns that take part of a binary solar system. Blue should represents their covenant, they would now choose a not-almighty king instead of a president or consul or dictator. White may mean peace but I'd prefer to let people think it's something to do with their "awakening". In the third flag the red stripe disappear as well as the reddish rectangle, this would mean that they emphasized the meaning of the big white stripe.

The second and forth flags represent another kingdom, Layse or place of the night. It also includes the New Geckoshire flag, a land that was recently annexed to the kingdom. Black stands for night, either natural or artificial due to the gas emissions coming out of the industries and forges. White would stand for pride, since its people are composed largely by smiths and engineers (showoffs), while black and red represents the Geckoan bloody past and the disaster caused by a plague they would never forget...
