Awesome Bro

Hi peoples,

So for the last half an hour or so, I've been designing some inventions for my game, these are the two I'm satisfied with at the moment...

Now for a quick rundown as to how they work;

Basically, these bots are placed by important doorways, in order to go through the door, a key must be placed into the bot via the slot on the right. The user will then slide the switch down on the left, once it's down fully, the bot will process the action, and if the correct key has been used, the red bulb on its head will light up, showing that the key has been accepted, the door will then open, and the user can enter.
These bots are placed in the center of each town/city/village or any static area (Where there are no enemies), these bots have been programmed to be as helpful as possible, with their advanced AI, the user is able to ask the bot a question, for example "Which way to the general store ?", the bot will then bring up the requested information on the left screen (and the red bulb on its head will light up to indicate this). However, since there could be multiple general stores, the bot might bring up more than one set of results, and will scroll through them at the users command, for example, if there are two sets of results, and the first set shows directions to a different general store, the user will press the red button on the right, telling the InfoBot that this is the wrong information, the bot will then bring up the second set of results, which will be the correct information, in which the user will then press the green button. The bot will then ask if the user wishes to print the current information, in which case, the green/red buttons will be used to answer this (Green = Yes, Red = No).

So now for the main question; C&C ?

remember to use imgzoom tags. resized your images and added IMGZOOM. ~boon

Well y'see, not sure if it gives the impression, but they are meant to look old and worn, sort of rusted, imagine if they were in Fallout 3, y'know, operational, but rusty.

However, this still doesn't make sense, I'll see what I can do to change it.

Well, if their meant to be rusted your color scheme is off, they'd be a dull reddish brown
furthermore outside of the rusted "zones" metal continues to stay metalish

get what I mean?

Yeah, I guess you're right with the colourscheme, I was just randomly mixing a pallette, and started adding more blue to give off the shadows, not sure about the rust colour itself, I just used it, haha.

Okay, so I've moved the colour orientation of the pallette over to the red scene, how does it look now ?;

Better/Worse ?

@ Velo; Peri isn't on IRC anyways, since I've been on for hours now, lol.

@ Dev; In your opinion which would you say is the best colourscheme, the first or second ? I mean, personally, I think the first looks better, although, admittedly, I was just messing around with the pallette.

I just got on all of 5 seconds ago, didn't know lol - try taking it up with boon

As for the color schem I would personally get a middle, use parts from both palettes :D

... You're joking right ?

He wouldn't be able to tell a good palette if it slapped him around the face and shoved its dick in his ear !

Also, I've just tested the bots with a mid-colour of the two palettes so far, and to be honest, it looks a mess, so I've scrapped that idea, lol.

I like the first better as well, the new one doesn't really communicate the "rusty" and "old" impression as well.

Lol Velo.

Mkay Dev, so we agree on something, lol.

Anyways, I'm gonna' put them both in the first post, and make a poll, I'll see what other people think too, and I'll most likely go with the majority vote.

Are these for 32x32 tiles or 16x16?
I personally think you should make them smaller, right now they are quite large and making them smaller = easier shading. I think the SecuriBot should have treads, instead of floating. And some sort of weapon in case they're attacked.

Right now your shading make them look flat. Such as the InfoBots head doesn't look rounded like it should. I may provide with an edit later. I can't really explain in words. And I think you've made your robots too rusted, the should still have some good metal on them, that's just my opinion though.

I lol'd.

Anyway, I voted for the first one. It looks better than the second because the second looks too red and doesn't really make it look rusted. It might look right depending on how the rest of your game looks, though. Sometimes I see sprites that have really bad coloring and such, but then I notice that in the game it fits perfectly.

But uhh... they're not ever going to look like that... I also don't get the eye either, and why it's screen is smashed...

They're still fully functioning robots, just really old and slightly rusted...

The main idea was that your colors are washed out and have low contrast.....
The RANDOM robot i made was just so you have a visual aid that you can see the color
changes on....

And because you said
imagine if they were in Fallout 3
I figured a Very rusted robot was what you were shooting for...
