RPGs Whats your favourite?

Ok, just for a log file, what is your favourite old school rpg- you can still play it today and it never gets old, New rpg- something that blows your mind that has just been released within the past couple years or just recently, and the rpg that you are waiting for. Something that looks so cool you cannot wait for it to come out.

Well, for me my old school favourite would have to be, the legend of zelda ocarian of time for the N64, the music in it was superb and the puzzels were intricate and challenging. It was just a marvel to play.

My current rpg that is also great. I think it won best rpg of the year last year. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. This game is enormous and beautiful at the same time. Real time lighting, over 9000 items, 200 dungeons, 9 ginormous cities and hundreds of sub settlements,Amazing npc AI that allow them to do what they want when they want. Over 50 hours of excelent voiced dialouge this game is a must buy. Its intricacy is amazing in the way you build skills, you get better at what you actually do so there are no skill points. The randomly generated forests that do everything from make wildlife to soil erousion and moss on rocks. This is the must get game for all rpg lovers.

My fav soon to be released game is "The Witcher", Amazing graphics and intresting story & plot. Its one to look out for on your next trip to the video game store.

Thats my rundown of rpgs, whats yours?

Moved to video games, computers etc.

My favorite, not really my opinion of BEST, is Phantasy Star IV. I still love that game.

Also I consider myself an RPG player but I seriously just do not like the Elder Scrolls games. I bought Morrowind and Oblivion, but I never even got very far in them, because they just started boring me. Combat is pretty horrible in both of them too. The lore though, good stuff there. Not to mention the trees look pretty in Oblivion. I'm always a sucker for trees.

Wow, I could list dozens, but I think I'm going to refrain. As far as old school RPGs go, I absolutely adored Super Mario RPG for the SNES. And it's coming out for Virtual Console soon. Doesn't get much sweeter than that!

Also, I'd have to agree with Andy about Oblivion. The graphics are completely gorgeous, but I suppose I'm just not used to playing an RPG where I don't have other characters leading me by the hand the whole time, like the typical Final Fantasy games, and the ones similar to that. Damn my simple little noggin...

Speaking of Final Fantasy, after months I have finally picked up 12. The battle system takes a little getting used to, but as usual, Square delivers in terms of story-line. It's nearly impossible to put it down. But, then again, I've heard a lot of criticism about it, so perhaps I'm a tad biased due to the fact that I've been a Final Fantasy fan-girl for ages...

And lastly, the RPG I'm waiting for? Blue Dragon for the Xbox 360. Finally, a chick-friendly game for that absurdly masculine console.

Old School? Probably Super Mario RPG. I grew up with it.

Newer? Anything Tales really, and I guess FFXII. "Tales" offers an easy to understand, yet difficult to master battle system which changes with every game. The stories are pretty good too, though not the best. Same could be said for graphics.

Legend of Zelda isn't an RPG. It's an Action Adventure.

My favorite old-school RPGs are Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 1, 4, and 5, and Super Mario RPG.

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain: Instant classic by Silicon Knights.
Action/Rpg, with great mature storyline and fantastic voice acting.
A must have in my opinion!

Phantasy Star IV!! that game made me cry like a baby, when Alys died!!!!!! ^^ All Phantasy star games were my favorites, PS1 PS2 and PS4 hehehe PS3 was not made by the same team and i dont like it

Marked in red are my absolute favorite games

Old - Final Fantasy 2 (US), Final Fantasy 3 (US), Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Beyond Oasis, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Terranigma (If you consider those last few RPGs), Lufia, Lufia 2 (I would kill for a next-gen Lufia 3), Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire 2, Super Mario RPG, Wanderers from Ys

Oldish - Final Fantasy VII-IV, Breath of Fire III, Breath of Fire IV, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia (Yeah, I liked it!), Lunar, Lunar 2, Grandia, Xenogears, Alundra, Parasite Eve, Parasite Eve 2, Final Fantasy Tactics, Star Ocean II, Chrono Cross (Yep, liked it too), SaGa Frontier, SaGa Frontier II, Tales of Destiny, Vagrant Story, Threads of Fate, Wild ARMs, Wild ARMs 2, Legend of Mana, Suikoden II, Tales of Destiny II, Arc the Lad, Arc the Lad III, Paper Mario, Brave Fencer Musashi

Newish - New
Final Fantasy X and XII, Kingdom Hearts I and II, Paper Mario II, Dark Cloud II, Jade Cacoon II, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss, Xenosaga, Xenosaga III, Radiata Stories, Wild ARMs 3, Breath of Fire IV, Grandia III, Dragon Quest VIII, Final Fantasy X-2, Disgaea, Arc the Lad IV, Front Mission 4, Oblivion (I thought it was retardedly boring at first too, but for some reason I played it again and got hooked)

If it looks like I simply put every RPG I've ever played on there, you'd be wrong. I'm sure you guys can think of dozens I didn't mention. It's not hard for a good RPG to hit my list of favorite games, and these are all good RPGs. There are a few good RPGs I didn't mention, but they know who they are.

Mega Flare

Awesome Bro

old school il have to say the Lufia games and older final fantasy games. new rpg has to be PSU!!!!!! would say FF12 but that game sucks so much

for my old school RPGs, I'd say Super Mario RPG, FF3(J-edition), chrono trigger and FF4, more recent would be 轩辕剑外传: 苍之涛(Xuanyuan Jian Waizhuan: Cang zhi Tao is the), Oblivion, FF's XI and XII, PSO'(eps. 1,2 and 3), Dark Messiah (if that counts), and a few other ones.

Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
Final Fantasy Tactics
Vagrant Story

As you can see, I'm a big Yasumi Matsuno's fan. :p

My favorite Old School is Final Fantasy III(US)/VI, for countless reasons. My favorite new school is The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. No, it's not the prequel to Oblivion; Oblivion is the sequel to Morrowind. And don't you forget it. ;-)

FF3/6 because of the incredible characters, soundtrack, and gameplay style; Morrowind because of the wonderful lore and plot.

Just from the top of my head... I'm sure I'm missing and forgetting like a million more.

"Old School" Favorites:

Final Fantasy IX: (Sony Playstation)
Yeah, so there are mixed feelings for gamers on this one, but for some reason I absolutely loved this title. The charm of these characters were great, and I loved the motif with the play in the beginning and in the ending. (Although I have to admit, I wasn't too keen on Zidane's trance appearance... ':|

Chrono Trigger/Cross: (Super Nintendo/ Sony Playstation)
While the former was a better game, I still absolutely adore these two titles as they helped me really get into the genre. Crono's plight in Cross was great with all the time traveling, and Serge's dimension hopping in Cross was an interesting concept. I would love to see a third in the series.

Super Mario RPG: (Super Nintendo)
Yeah, yeah, the concept was simple. Throw ole' Mario into the RPG format and play the silly fun-ness (I know that's not a word) I liked the balance of all the characters and Bowser was just freakin' funny. I liked how Square turned this one out.

Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete: (Sony Playstation)
I stumbled upon this quite by accident when I was younger and it was the first time I had ever seen anime style mixed into an RPG. The game played out nicely with the charm of it's animated sprites really getting you into the battle system. Also, the story was well enough that I really wanted to see what would happen with Lucia.

Kingdom Hearts I and II: (Playstation 2)
Amidst all the ravid fanboys out there, I still claim KH I&II as one of my favorites. Who would've thought that Square and Disney would create such a great game? Donald and Goofy are great teammates (in my opinion) and the storyline is pretty intriguing.

Current Interests:

Final Fantasy XII: (Playstation 2)
I bought this when it was released last Oct, and still have yet to really play it. Shameful, I know but being a college student is time consuming. Hopefully I'll get to it soon.

Pokemon Diamond: (Nintendo DS)
Okay, okay, it might not really be considered a traditional RPG, but it has enough elements for me to give it an honorable mention. While I had lost interest in Pokemon media years ago because of all the damned American hype, I still love the games. My girlfriend recently bought me Diamond the other day, and once again Nintendo doesn't fail to deliver.

Enchanted Arms: (Playstation 3)
So I've only played like fifteen minutes of this game, and while it's not really the best damned thing since slice bread, the visuals are enough to keep me interested. I'll get back to you on this one.

Anyways, I'll add more when I can think of them.

Old:

Shadowrun,
Revelations: Persona + Persona 2,
SB/IoG/Terranigma,
Shin Megami Tensei I+II
Super Mario RPG
Earthbound

Recent:

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
Contact
Etrian Odyssey
Odin Sphere
Digital Devil Saga I+II

Yes, I'm biased towards Atlus in case you were wondering. Play these games and you'll see why.

Upcoming:

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 *orgasm*
