[RPG] Old music showcase, + voice acting

These are pieces I composed mostly in a period of 5-4 years ago. I no longer compose or write music of any kind. They were created for long-dead mod projects and most of them were never finished. They are provided as-is. You are allowed to use them in your RPG in whole or in part provided you credit me, IskatuMesk.

I am not a professional composer, I never took any classes. I just hit things on my keyboard and if it sounded good I kept it. Some people seem to think they're good. Personally I don't share their opinion. Unfortunately any criticism is kind of wasted because I don't compose anymore and the sound card needed for gigastudio got fried in a power surge, anyway. But feel free to share your thoughts, whatever they may be.

I used Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 and Gigastudio. Some of the older peices were created using Modplug tracker and are extremely old. As I'm copying and pasting from a staff thread submission inside CC a few of them have a very concise description. If you'd like to know more about a specific piece I can tell more.

For sound editing I use Adobe Audition 1.5.

Most of these follow a deep gothic/epic genre based on my like-minded writing. Average construction time is 2 hours for the larger pieces. My attention span and temper didn't let me play with it much longer.

Super old stuff -

Do note this is old, OLD stuff. I may have uploaded a handful in group A. (Group A is just a copy+paste of my currently uploaded files.)
Most of these aren't that good, but here they are anyways.

Most of this stuff has never, ever been released to the public.

I'm also a voice actor and sound engineer which I've done a lot longer and have had a lot more experience in. Again, I don't do this professionally or for money, but I don't do requests, either (Unless you feel like doing something for me, then we could possibly work something out). You may not use any of these voices in your project. I'm posting them here in case anyone has any questions about voicing or editing in general. Note that since I have Schizophrenia I haven't been able to consistently voice act for over three years.

I specialize in evil spooky voices, demons, dragons, things of the evil nature. Ironically my main weakness is normal human voices.

^ Those were voiced for one of my many ill-fated Starcraft TC's.

I'll post some more voice acting examples if desired.

Perhaps you will find something you like. Perhaps not.

This is some really good stuff in my opinion. I've only listened to group A so far. I think it sounds epic and pretty inspirational. nazadune, stormspire and echoes of the abyss really stood out to me. I'll listen to B and give more critiquing on A and B when I have some more time. I just wanted to give you props!

Thank you for the feedback. Nazadune is using VBR so winamp's track bar freaks out on it for me. After that I used CBR exclusively.

I look forward to your critique.

hey im still gonna critique your music. my computers been messed up so i havent been able to listen to music! =/ but once i get it fixed ill listen to them and post a response

No problem. I check these threads daily for responses. Getting any critique at all is worth the wait.

/edit

Updated my terms of use. I no longer support or endorse CC so a link to it would be inappropriate now.

Sorry for taking so long to post a response. I just got my computer back from the shop.

I just listened through Group B and I was very impressed with it. I like it more than Group A to be honest. My favorites were:
A-pieb, I really like the choir and string effects, and the little dark effects and twists you throw in there.
Galorian Menu Candidate1, I really like the ending. The rest of it was good as well. My only problem with this one is that the strings tend to get too "overwhelming" I'll say. But that might just be me, I like things to be a little simpler when it comes to video game music. Meaning not as grand and powerful.
The Eye of the Dream, this one kind of reminds of Halo or something. I like the combination of the strings and tribal/synth drums. The only thing bad about it was the drums were a little too loud. If they were a little quieter, I think this would be a masterpiece. Also, if it was a little longer, but that never really bothers me.
The Grand End of Time, I like the first half of this one a lot. I didn't really care for the synth drums. The acoustic guitar was a nice touch. I wish there would've been a little more of a change up in the melody though. I like the heavy guitar in the end, but I thought it was a little out of place. Maybe if it got added onto a little more.
Zelconian Theme1, I like the tribal feel to it. Parts of it remind me of Lord of the Rings. Overall, I'd say it was a great composition!
Zelconian2 was good, too, but I like the first one more.

The voice acting was good, too. It was some of the scariest shit I've heard in a while. haha

I like your style of composition. It's very inspirational. It's a shame you don't compose anymore.

Wow. This stuff is amazing! I'm shocked actually. What programs do you use and how long have you been doing this? I'm impressed.

Make more! Never stop! lol

Haha, I'm afraid I'll never compose again. My GSIF-compliant soundcard got fried and I haven't the faintest clue how to get Kontakt to work with cakewalk, so it's long over.

I used Gigastudio for my sampler and Cakewalk Home Studio for my sequencer. I only created music off and on for a year or two back in 2003-2004. I created one or few tracks post-2004 but not many (SpirestormC comes to mind).

Rottenwood29 > I find it astonishing you like group B more than group A. Group B is all crappy modplug stuff! You don't even get notes or anything in that, just numbers in some kind of track listing and it's a real mess and a pain in the ass to use. Very surprising indeed. Most of the pieces, like The Grand End of Time, were just tests and never intended to be finished.

Thanks for the feedback!

Ha ha. Well thanks. I'm glad you approve. The music makes the whole thing though. So thank you for allowing me the pleasure of using it. : )

I'm considering using only your music throughout the game. Am actually thinking about voice acting too, but It would be a pain and take a LONG time.

Yeah. I'm not gonna think about doing the voices for my project until a demo is ready. The demo will only encompass like 1/32 of the entire project though. And even that will be several hours of sitting down and voicing around a hundred characters. Most of them only have one-liners, but it'll still be a challenge. Of course, the fact I can't focus very well hurts this, too, because the project won't reach demo stage for quite a long time.

I hear ya. If I do voice acting, I'll start recruiting friends, family, and .org'ers. lol. I wouldn't ask you to do that. Your music has already become a focal point in the project. And I also have a really tough time focusing on something. This is a side project for me, but I have a hard time keeping it that way. It'll either be completely lost or it'll become an obsessive priority that I can't stop on until it finally becomes boring and I give up on it altogether.

I just hope that I can learn from it though. "The first step to solving your problem is admitting you have one." Maybe that'll help too. At least I know what the problem is. XD

I wish you luck, Iskatu. I'm really hoping I can get a small taste of every little bit of the game, then release the demo. I'll allow the player to make it up to a cliffhanger part of the storyline, allow them to get a feel for all of the different activities, but block off some of the really neat stuff until the full version is released. We'll see. I've got quite a bit of mapping to do before I can even pretend to put out a demo. lol.

Keep in touch, I'd like to see your project take flight.

Heh, I wish it would be sooner rather than later. I won't be able to check this thread too often now because the video card in my main computer just asploded, crippling me in a critical part of my efforts to learn 3ds max and a bunch of other things. Now I'll probably have to wait quite some time to do anything at all.

Good luck with your project!
