RPG Maker XP - Panorama mapping

I intend to use some panoramas for maps in my game, and I was wondering if it is possible to see the panorama in the editor (in the map itself), rather then only when playtesting.

This worked in RM2k3 if the map was the same size as the panorama, but apparently this doesn't work in XP. Is there another trick?
 
Nope, Unfortunately.
I have seen people chop the image into 256 wide vertical slices, then put those slices into a tileset. That way you can set the priority & passage easily, add 2nd & 3rd layer objects to the tileset, and still have use of the panorama function if you want it.

Hmm, that's a pretty good idea. It works pretty good. In Rm2k3 that way of using it was pretty dodgy because the tilesets had a size limit, plus a certain arrangement of tiles was necessary for the two different layers to work. But in RMXP it's pretty genius.
