RPG Maker XP no longer functions

I downloaded the trial version of XP yesterday, and it was working just fine then, but today I get an error message saying "Failed to create process" when I try to playtest, and trying to create a new project gives me the error message "Failed to copy folder", at which point my virus scanner gives me a trojan alert. Reinstalling the program has done nothing to fix the problem.

I just got this problem too. Do you use AVG?

Yeah. It keeps going off when I try to create a new project, or when I try doing the repair option with the setup file.

Where did you download the .exe from?
if you didnt get it from the official site, that may or may not be the problem.

I'd try reinstalling it with a download from a different site. Perhaps the Enterbrain one. If you're using Vista by the way, sometimes RPG Maker can be prevented from making new projects as the project folder is in Program Files, which Vista won't let anything save to.

Assign your project directory to a folder outside of Program Files.

I had this exact problem. There's nothing wrong with your RMXP; AVG is reporting a false positive. Have a look at this thread.

The program works again, though the project that doesn't work still doesn't work. No big loss, though, as it was just me mucking around trying to get used to the program.

Always remember to keep backups of backups of backups of your game files.
