Nitpicking aside, take a look at Adobe's prices for software and you will embrace everyone at Enterbrain with a possible happy-end. There's also been conversions of free products into pay products whereever you look, so seeing that, 90 bucks for a software like RM that you use for multiple hundred hours is not such a big expense.
Of course, the question if you want to use the program definately stands. If you also have GM and whichever other engine, it might not pay off for you to also buy VXA.
If you are thinking like I do, you think RM is a money-making machine that could give the users what they want, however doesn't - intentionally. Also, working from scratch with something like Gosu is way more educational, fun and rewarding in the end, and it's free besides, so no need to buy VXA there either.
In the end, it's always a question of scope (no pun intended), and whether or not working with RM is something that lets you have fun. If it is, then it's money well spent (Enterbrain agrees and will get you a little bit happier next release). If you don't, then don't buy it and save 90 bucks that way for soda and chips to feed yourself while learning to use Gosu. Or just soda, if you also have to afford GM.
Seriously, I would rather burn 40 bucks on the street then spend it for GM... but that's not part of the discussion...
