Meanwhile, Construct 2 is $80 and Game Maker 8 is $40. I heartily recommend either of them.

It's a unilateral improvement from past RMs, absolutely, but then again I didn't consider those ones to be worth $60.

If the price of software has risen 150% anywhere else in the last five years, I am not aware of it.

Little nitpick, but it's either 150% of the old price, or it rose by 50%. I also tend to nitpick things like "one-hundred and twenty" meaning 100.2, since "and", in math, technically refers to a decimal point. (On a related note, unless you're a scientist, and thus bound by certain rules regarding significant figures, "one-hundred and twenty" is exactly the same as "one-hunded and two" (100.20 versus 100.2))

Nitpicking aside, take a look at Adobe's prices for software and you will embrace everyone at Enterbrain with a possible happy-end. There's also been conversions of free products into pay products whereever you look, so seeing that, 90 bucks for a software like RM that you use for multiple hundred hours is not such a big expense.

Of course, the question if you want to use the program definately stands. If you also have GM and whichever other engine, it might not pay off for you to also buy VXA.
If you are thinking like I do, you think RM is a money-making machine that could give the users what they want, however doesn't - intentionally. Also, working from scratch with something like Gosu is way more educational, fun and rewarding in the end, and it's free besides, so no need to buy VXA there either.

In the end, it's always a question of scope (no pun intended), and whether or not working with RM is something that lets you have fun. If it is, then it's money well spent (Enterbrain agrees and will get you a little bit happier next release). If you don't, then don't buy it and save 90 bucks that way for soda and chips to feed yourself while learning to use Gosu. Or just soda, if you also have to afford GM.

Seriously, I would rather burn 40 bucks on the street then spend it for GM... but that's not part of the discussion...

I will be grabbing my copy when it comes out. I do find that $90 is a bit steep, but technically for the functionality you get, it is really worth the price. It will discourage alot from getting it though since its that high.

Besides this pre order discount, it was mentioned also a discount for those who own VX, i don't know if they will keep that.

I got the original japanese, and all i can say it was worth every peny *-*

Worth the wait. Seeing as I'm using ace vx and samurai resources.

Hopefully it can manage more tilesets to use too. And not five. and not just another template, which of course
is useful anyway.

Edit: Oh wait, caught it just time:

Expanded "Tile Set" and Mapping Functionality

It might work then having one single tileset with alot of in it.

The "mapping" (I.E drawing the maps on the editor) didn't change much (just some small tweaks line the autoshadow tool to remove or add autoshadows), what changed was the tileset management overall.

But it's really funny that people still don't know about ace features, considering that the japanese trial was relased December 1st and there is a english path for it...

Cause lets face it. We all want better mapping and they dropped the ball again. While improved over vx, it still is super lacking. Leaving us no option but to parallax for complex maps that you could have done before in XP without trouble.

I will still be getting it, but mainly because I want to translate my battle system over to it when released.

I'd note there are strong sub communities who do like the new mapping system, so perhaps it is to some people's taste, but yeah the general consensus here is that XP mapping was/is superior.

I've noticed running on Windows 7 64bit, XP and VX have their hick-ups. VX being the more annoying one with a 15sec black screen when starting a game; which feels like forever when I just want to play test.
I would get Ace just to have a smoother system. It says it supports both 32 and 64 bit systems. But the only reason I still use rm is to help other people with their projects.
