Romancing SaGa (and the SaGa series!)

So I picked up Romancing SaGa, Minstrels Song a while ago, against the advice of every videogame reviewer ever. I'm glad to say as a longtime SaGa fan, I'm enjoying it immensely.

Is anyone into the SaGa games? Romancing SaGa, SaGa Frontier 1 and 2, and most recently, Minstrel's Song and Unlimited SaGa (which really was awful). The series usually gets a lot of flak, mainly on account that they're as unconventional as it gets as far as RPGs go.

Extremely nonlinear, (most of the plot is discovered by actually going out of discovering it), very technical gameplay that's complicated to the point of arcane (there are still people decoding SaGa Frontier's battle system), a metric fuckton of characters, who many of them have little to do with anything. This turns a lot of people off, but I find that this unconventional way to have a game definitely brings charm.

So anyone have any opinions on the series? (I expect a lot of you to say that you don't like it, but considering that this will probably be a common viewpoint, please elaborate on why.)

I love SaGa, Romancing SaGa and SaGa 2 being my favorites in the series. Kenji Ito writes an amazing score for most of the games and the linear sidequest actions actually entertain me.

btw i dont see how anyone could NOT like them, except Romancing SaGa 2 and Unlimited, which were awful

but I guess its a matter of viewpoint
