RMVX Cosmetic Lighting

Ok, so I haven't been on here in a while and hopefully that will change now.  Anyways I really love using cosmetic lighting and I had to figure out a way to use it in VX.

Now in order to do this you have to make the map the smallest size it will go which is 17x13.  I know it kinda sucks, but you can still make decent maps even if it is a bit small.  Anyways this is sort of a tutorial if you want to know the full method you can view Calibre's Cosmetic Lighting Tutorial.  I will just be explaining how to get this to work with VX.

Now after you have the image you are using for your light created and saved.  Go to your Resource Manager and import the image into your Pictures section.  Next you have to create an event with a Parallel Process trigger.  Then go to the second page of the event commands and select Show Picture, use the following settings.

Notice I also tinted the screen, that is to give it a more bluish look, since it is nighttime.  This is what you will get when it's done.

I notice that the shadows from the wall is on the floor still, so I will have to try and work on this some more.  The map also isn't the greatest I know, but I just put it together in about 2 minutes.

Using Parallel Process for this is quite inefficient... instead, you should use a self-deactivating autostart event - they way you have it, the picture would get refreshed every frame again, heavily draining your RAM in comparison.

Alright, I shall give this a try.  I never really gave it much thought on how I was starting the event.  I believe I used the same method in XP, not really sure though, thanks for the input.

I used parallel process immediately followed by an erase event.  If it's an autostart... I dunno it may not start before an autostart cutscene.

...and jesus christ... Bluescope...

Of course, erasing the event'd be another alternative, though if you need several light settings (e.g. for switchable electric light), having a self-switch deactivating light event would be more comfortable... I gotta admit I don't have any clue about the procession of autostart events in concurrence to PPs, but you could always use a PP with the erase method really...

And yeah, I figure I'm back into posting... ^^ (I've been on IRC very often... you didn't realize that, did you? :] ) I've been great btw, but yeah... back to the topic ^^
