[RGSS] Character Spacing?

Hi there:

I was wondering, if is there anyway to incrase the character spacing in the drawing of a text... for example:

NORMAL TEXT => N O R M A L T E X T

of course that not adding a space between each character, but with some kind of code, of modification of the bitmap or whatever.

Thanks in advance.

You could do it, by modifying the draw_text method, however letter spacing is quite an advanced subject. If you'd be a layouter like me, you'd know about five billion differences between optical vs. metrical alignment, and why you need these because if you just space them, they look terrible and not like what the designer inteded them to. So, without explaining much (couldn't do it too good without reference anyway), my suggestion is you look at one of the letter-by-letter scripts and modify them with an additional parameter... should take two seconds and work flawlessly, however - as I said - probably won't look too good.

@Bluescope: Yeah, using a Letter by Letter Message System works.

The main problem that i was having, was because i used a font with outline, and with minimal font size, each letter was drew very close to the last character and looks messy and ugly, but as i said, with a little change in the UMS i got what i want.

And looks good :).

Thanks.

Yeah of course.

It's a pic of my game, because i worked with the UMS and fixing it is horrible (because it's a mess, but a good mess :P)

Hm, I see... spaced letters and small caps... you sure are fighting the god of typography there, aren't you :)
But yeah, under the circumstances, it really does look better... there is only a single problem, which is the T in 'Outline', but other than that, it looks rather good. There are some problems with it that don't affect readability, however, such as the gray factor of the outline ('Test' has a pretty dark outline, while 'for' has a light one) or the kerning of some letters ('L' in 'Problems').

All in all - pretty cool looking, though!
