Resource Gallery v3

I've spent most of today coding a resource manager for HBGames.org to replace the existing one.

Sorry, I failed you all there. It was a silly way of doing it, it had a lot of glitches, and on top of that it was not properly tested and it turned out I was the only person in the world able to add to it :x.

Here's announcing the third resource manager for HBGames.org. It is hosted offsite because I have a ton of bandwidth and disk space going on ohski; don't let the domain put you off. It's hosted on the same site as bb.hbgames.org (and uses the same system).

How does it work?

This time, submitting a resource couldn't be easier.

  • File: this is a file off your hard drive.
  • Author: the person who made the file.
  • Type: what sort of file is being uploaded.

That's all you need. Click "Submit my resource" and it will be added to the type category you chose.

Categories

There are currently three categories: Graphics, Music, Scripts.

I need to know what categories we want here. Subcategories of those three are a must.

File lists

Currently, the file lists for music and scripts are plain text and haven't been styled much.

For graphics, you will find a snazzy display of the graphics in that category.

You can also search. --- currently broken

Who can upload?

This time around anybody can upload a graphic, even guests, to encourage use of the system.

FAQ

How can I report a file?
Send a private message to a member of staff.

What filetypes are allowed?
I need to add to this list. Currently the following are accepted by the system:
GIF, JPEG, PNG, MPEG, OGG, MIDI, FLASH, ZIP, PDF

Obvious ones missing that I need to add are TXT and RB, for scripts.

Yeah. To be honest the last one was a major cockup.

No files were lost from the last one by the way. I will get around to readding them eventually.

Are you going to add the different catogories of graphics (autotiles, tilesets etc) within the graphics tab itself eventually? Because having all different types of graphics mixed in one group is going to get confusing. Other than that, looks way better.

Yeah. I'm waiting till I know what categories everyone wants till I add them in as I gotta hard code them.

Actually for now I'll try and find what ones we had in the old system, and add them.

I think it should be made clear that "Author" means the person who created the resource / copyright holder, NOT necessarily the person who uploads it. A short Note near the Author field as a reminder would be cool.

Nice work, Wyatt!

Phew, I was worried there for a second. I'd hate to have to upload everything again. I really need to organize my photobucket.

i broke it.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_BOOLEAN_AND in /mounted-storage/home84c/sub002/sc45761-CPMW/www/pro/resources/upload.php on line 367

i think its awesome, but im still missing something
the .org uploader used to have descriptions, those were really neat, because people could add stuff and specify how it should be used.
also i'd like to be able to upload sets of files, maybe a package with some music, some graphics that match, etc.
if i have a set of images now, theres no way for them to stick together in the large chunk of files.
the most ideal situation would be if i was able to upload a .rar and add a description and a preview image
so that you see a small part of the preview in the big list.php, and you can click on that to see the full preview, the description and a download button

idk how much work that'll be, but that'd allow people to upload custom rtp's and whatnot.
also the image categories will then be filled with 'stand-alone' images instead of whole sets, so the graphic-picking gets a lot easier.

also its 8:25 in the morning so the whacky grammar and vocab is something you'll have to deal with

edit:
o i see .zip is already available.. where do you use that?

Few things.
-The link on the 'home' site to 'latest graphics' still leads to the old resource manager.
-Is it possible to have an option to edit your submissions, in case you do make a mistake?
-The search engine is case sensitive, I think it might be better if it wasn't.

Also, would it make sence to have a templates tab for spriting? I seem to recall there was a templates section on the original .net site.

I've been thinking about Tomas's suggestion and I think I have come up with an idea.

When uploading a graphic you will have an option to fill out a text box. This will save a file as yourfilename.ext.txt. "list.php" will provide a link to $file.txt as "extra information and license".

I'm going to work on that tonight I think, or later today.

Todo list:

  • .txt information files
  • Add category for templates
  • Break scripts and music up into categories
  • Add in the resources from the old manager (the Wordpress one)
  • See if any resources are available via archive.org, from the old old manager (rmxp.org/net)
  • See about making search non-case-sensitive

Due to the nature of the manager it's not possible to edit resources :(. You can however pm an admin (me, preferably) to change it. I'll add info to the portal page about this and what to do in case of copyright violation.
