[Resolved] Creating an Opening Cutscene

Okay, I feel like an idiot for asking this, as I get the feeling that there is a simple answer to it, but here goes...

I am creating an opening sequence in my game with the in-game spites and such, but there's one thing which is bugging me. When the player selects the "New Game" option on the main screen, the screen fades straight to the map, and there is a moment before the weather and hue effects flick on-screen. I'm sure there's a way of making the screen fade to black, then slowly fading into the map, no scene of the full coloured map flicking up at the beginning. I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me with this, so I'll just wait here to be humiliated with the obvious answer which I missed along the way. Thanks in advance!  :thumb:

P.S. First post on this forum, hopefully not the last.

You could always have the player start with no character graphic on a blank map. Then you could set the screen tone to black, transfer the player, and set everything up before fading the screen back in. I don't think it'd be distinguishable from the way the screen normally fades in at the start of the game, but I could be wrong.

Aah, thank you, thank you, thank you. I knew it'd be something simple to do. It's worked absolutely perfectly.

Thanks again for the quick resolve!
[Hint, hint. Mods can mark this resolved nice and quickly now.]

There's actually a simpler method. Rather than using Autorun for the screen tint and other events, use Parallel Processing: it runs the commands immediately when you enter a map, before the screen even shows. This way, you can tint the screen, start weather, etc. as long as you keep the time to 0.
If you need to restrict player movement, just turn on a self-switch after the necessary commands and make a second page on Autorun with the rest of the event commands there.

[By the way, you can resolve this yourself by simply editing your first post and adding a [Resolved] or other notice to the title ]

Another helpful comment! I didn't know what that was. Thank you, that will come in handy later!
However, I like the fade to black, then to the map which the first answer gave, so I will be keeping that, rather than going straight to the map. Thank you anyway, for both tips!
I can tell that this is going to be a very helpful community. :thumb:
