Like the other Resident Evil movies, I'll probably hate it. They stray far from the source material, making the characters seem tacked on. Hell, they already ruined Jill by making her a badguy, and Claire doesn't even LOOK like Claire. Honestly, I think the only RE game that'll translate well into a movie is RE4, and that's only if it's a no-holds barred action flick. You know, Die Hard style.
uh... I don't think I saw Jill once during that whole movie. I think she just got dissapeared.

Now, terrible it may be, but it delivers on what it's aiming for, which is fun action and a semi-coherent plot. Oh and some shock moments.

Isaacs had the backstory of Harkin from RE2 and a mix of traits from the Tyrant and Nemesis.

Resident Evil 1, 2, Nemesis, Code Veronia and 0 were ace....fixed camera angles made the games good along with the amazing stories....and all this was ruined by hollywoods idea to say "hey! lets make this into a movie and put people in charge of directing that haven't even seen or played the game!" the movies suck soo much ass...i'm not sure i'll even other with this one....and as PyramidHead said....Resi 4 may be the only good one in movie form because the game isn't even a resident evil imo.
You can't compare the movies to the games. The creators of the movies already stated that they take place in an alternate timeline/world, so aren't related to the games at all.
Gotta love those loopholes.
Also, the original plans for the first RE movie was to be an exactly play-by-play of the first and second games, skipping a bit to shorten it down in time. Fans decided this was a -bad- course of action and, listening to the fans, they decided to rewrite the script. (I believe George A. Romano wrote the original script)

It wasn't the fans, it was Capcom that decided fans would complain since it wouldn't be 'close enough'...so instead they green lit the first movie (set alone would've been ok) but the sequel ripped elements from the other games and threw them to the dogs to chew for a while, mangle, and make completely unrecognizable. Capcom made the decision, not based on fan input, but on their own :P
Hell, he didn't even have an original character from the game until the SECOND pile of crap. And it's fan consensus that they take place in an 'alternate' reality, not the creators :P...But that's sort of a gimmie.
Paul Anderson is also the same douche responsible for writing AVP. Honestly, it was just....odd for me that a movie based on something only had light references to it to begin with. There was never a 'evil super computer' in the games, and it was all set up as a field test for the T-Virus. Also, the whole Alice = Super soldier haha' was a load of crap as well...
I'll probably end up watching it, just to see how badly they muck it up even further, but that's only when it's for free on Cable TV (Gotta love no censorship in Canada :P)

paul anderson is also linked to the castlevania film, although to be honest castlevania in movie form could go anywhere considering it's a side scroller.
anyway the res evil movies suck.
oh and resident evil 4 was a resident evil, one of the best, gives more detail on umbrella and such stuff.

This one is better than the second one at the very least. I mean, sure, there's some absolutely downright retarded plot developments, but after the series got stupid in the second movie, it's not like you're not expecting it.
Also, Olivera's in this movie, the only character other than Alice (I think) to actually go from movie to movie. Unless you count masked biohazard scientist.
Oh and WESKER is in this movie. Shame he doesn't... do anything. He actually seems kind of lame.

The plot has been degenerating, the first one was cool, the second one turn out to be crap,comeon Nemesis after all that would still remember her? I can?t quite see the Bazuka guy in the games, killing the other guys for you :x. I haven't seem this one, and i am not looking forward to it. The second was a great disapointment to me, the effects where cool but mew.. that's not resident evil, that's a action movie not scary (although the first one wasn't scary at all, but it was more like the games...).
That's because the guy who directed 2 is different from the guy(s?) who directed 1 and 3 I think.
I thought RE 1 was nice... it was bleak and ultra-modern punk (or near future, w/e) and it kind of revolutionized the female martial artist thing in the west i think and 3 had it's own charms... but yeah 2 was shitty. In a way, if you think about it, it almost sounds like something somebody from Capcom could come up with decently - it's rather anime, especially the first one. S'all good though, Milla's a really cool actress so the movies are fun anyway ('cept for ultraviolet she almost never fails to amuse me)
I'd prefer 1 and 3 to something lame like Land of the Dead which was so contrived, I mean wtf, "socio-political commentary on the state of consumerism and capitalism" my ass - and the capacity of humans towards violence/ non-humans towards humanity? Shit, if I wanted that I'd have watched Blade Runner. At least that way, I'll see things you people wouldn't believe.... I have more respect for a director who wants to make money than a director trying to be smart. The former CAN be smart after all whereas the latter can never be, is just plain stupid and quite deluded...
Although Romero did kind of start it all, still it doesn't mean that he's still good today, and it just pisses me off when fags like Roger Ebert critically acclaim films like Land of the Dead just because it was made by a director who made some (relatively) good movies a long time ago. Because shit, if you've seen night of the living dead, I mean... it wasn't that great. But who can blame the strategists for conducting the D-Day operations right? It was largely successful and they were stupider back then than we are today (or are we.)
I found the first and third movies enjoyable taken in its own terms, and to me that's all that matters. Same thing with music... pisses me off absolutely when people go like omg i listen to such and such genres, wtf? I really doubt people can have such narrow tastes - or maybe they're just really close minded with around 130 IQ and with as much opinion as an... I dunno, an autistic donkey? Whatever.
