reorganizing music

I recently reached 94GB's of music. and the folder that contains all my music is 111GB's large because i have all my music organized by artist than album. dose ne one know of a way to reorganize my music so that every song i own is in the same folder and i can delete all the other folders w/o having to go into every folder and cutting and pasting then into the same folder. my music is organized into 6715 folder. I want to make it so i can delete all of those folders and put all my music in the same folder so i can have more hard drive space.

if you can help thx. if you can not, oh well thx for trying.

why would you want all your music in one folder?

i don't think theres a very practical way of doing this.. at least nothing comes to mind. looks like you're in for a lof of CTRL+X CTRL+V

that doesn't make sense. A bunch of files in several folders still takes up the same amount of space as a bunch of files in one folder.

All that will happen is a loss of organization.

no because the folders take up some space by them self. i have 6715 folders and that adds up to quiet a bit. mabey not 10 bgs but it is still some space. but i will probably just try to save up some money and buy an external hard drive and put all my music on that.

Erm...folders take up hardly any space on the hard drive. Even if a folder took up a kilobyte of space (which I'm quite certain it doesn't), 6715 folders would only take up 6.5 megabytes.

Folders don't take any space. They're directories, not files.

It's easy to think of them as files since in Windows they're pretty little icons you can drag around, but ten minutes in MSDOS and you'll know they're just filename paths.

maybe i have a bunch of corrupted or unreadable files in there than because i tunes says i have 94GB's of music and the properties of the folder say all the contents add up to 111GB's

It could also be rounding error.

iTunes might call a song that's say 3.2812480314 MB a 3.28 MB song, whereas whatever other method you're using actually uses the full filesize. While that's a very small difference for each song, it could quite possibly add up!

It's kind of like the pennies thing in Office Space.

EDIT: Also I agree with Cruelty, I can't see why you would ever want that... that would be annoying/difficult to manage/navigate/etc. Especially since nowadays 20 (well 111-94=17) GB isn't really even that much... you can buy 500GB hard drives between like $100 and $200, so theoretically (and only theoretically), you could buy a 20GB hard drive for $4 to $8.

the reason i wanted it was because i thought that folders took up some space and i need more hard drive space. but i guess i will just have to delete a bunch of things or get a new hard drive. thx all
