Remnants of Skystone is a side-scrolling MMORPG with a delightful Metroidvania flavor. You play as a recent exile from the town of Skystone, where a purple monster-laden mist has taken over. Now you live in a flying town and take on various missions to save your home from evil mimics.
The character designs aren't anything to write home about, but the levels and monsters look really cool (which is... very... strange.) Despite being a part of Kongregate's 2d flash based web meta games, RoS is surprisingly... fun!
You can choose from one of three classes, but they all play out in different ways, and it feels a little like Sonic & Knuckles for the Genesis. Aeronauts are sort of the mages, they have a long range attack and a steam-powered jetpack, can also equip brass goggles, etc. Ferricks are feral melee fighters who can climb walls, ceilings and have high defense. The last class, Crags, I haven't played too much but essentially they're Indiana Jones/Cowboys with Simon Belmont's moveset.

All dungeons are instanced and you'll do most of the story missions alone, which is fine since I'm an angry misanthrope. However, you can also do co-op missions, and let me tell you it's FUN-AS-HELL!! I haven't had this much fun co-op since... Well, L4D and RB2. Which I played last week, but still!
You also get your own house and can customize it to hell and back. It's a nice feature, but more for social MMO butterflys.

The controls are very tight, and there's no lag whatsoever, so if you die (which I haven't yet, but apparently it's possible) it's more your fault than the games.
Unfortunately the game is in closed alpha, and being a Kongregate user they finally let me in last night. If you sign up here: http://www.remnantsofskystone.com/blog/ you can probably get in. I know it looks wonky, but trust me when I say it kicks much ass.
