Hello, I just regiestered here on this forum.

First of all I want to say Hi to everyone on these boards.

Title: Reggie World

Genre: 3D platformer

Platform: Windows (Xp/Vista/7/8) PC

I am currently developing a 3D platformer trying to keep the style of a retro platformer we all
should know. Players can compete by creating and sharing new levels and beating the top level times.
Will you be able to find all special worlds, to get your hands on one of the special items and
to beat the levels with best time and / or most coins collected?

The main Idea is to keep the simple run from start to finish sidescroller gameplay in a 3D enviroment.

At first it should be a exact copy of the gameplay formula of SMW, but now I am expanding it with
new abbilities and enemy types.

The controls are as follows (<360 controller> or <keyboard>):

<arrow keys> or <left joystick> -> movement.

<x button> or <ctrl> -> hold down for running (speed will build up slowly)
also hold down to carry objects.

<a button> or <shift> -> jump hold down for greater height
also the faster you move the higher you can jump.

<b button> or <space> -> spin jump.

<rb trigger> or <4> -> rotate camera.

<start> or <return> -> get past the title screen.

Thx for the reminder should have read the rules before posting into a new forum. I have updated the thread (hopefully) according to these rules.
 
Hey man. This looks pretty cool. The only thing is... It's named reggie world, but it looks like a 3D port of mario 3... I just want to air this out, is it a different game and you're just using super mario graphics as a placeholder? Or is it a mario game named as reggie world? Also some of the games physics seem a little off... Like you seem to be able to jump ridiculous heights. Especially off of the bullet bills. Otherwise, it looks great. Also would you be able to explain these abilities you would be adding?
I look forward to seeing future contributions from you.

If you look closely The game was planned as a remake of SMW not Mario3.

Changes planed:

-as far as flying goes, I will give the player a jetpack which fuel recharges when staying on the ground.
-Some replacement for yoshy, which is more suited to the 3d gameplay but I am still thinking about the design.
-Special Items to use once within a level like hovering boots which will help you not to fall of so easily of a ledge, a one hit absorbing forcefield etc. These items will be bought with the coins you have maximal collected per level.
-Those warp pipes will be removed and there are not going to be piranha plants, I think I rather go with some kind of hovering platforms that shoot at you and ninjas appearing out of nowhere.
-I love NSMW block system, so I will go with that, maybe adding some special blocks like locked treasure boxes, boxes that suddenly become enemys and pickupable Blocks that become water when they touch the ground, so you could fill certain areas with water to find something special.


Also some of the games physics seem a little off... Like you seem to be able to jump ridiculous heights. Especially off of the bullet bills

good that you remind me on that, I will remove the jumping bonus when jumping of enemys then, if it looks strange. I thought it could make the game a bit easier. But when it looks distorted to much it would only make gameplay harder.
Right now running faster will also allow you to jump higher, i will try to further minimize this influence, if the maximum jump height looks to high.

I like the jetpack idea, will it have the little big planet effect where you can only use the jetpack within a certain radius of it's spawn point?
I must admit that Yoshi looked a little weird coming out of a block. Try making him come out of an egg styled object. I don't really know anything about 3D Programming and I don't know how hard such a thing would be.

I like the idea of the hover boots and forcefield, really cool.

All these blocks sound pretty awesome, you should have puzzles based around them. Didn't super mario 64 do the enemy blocks too. It's quite cool and would be cool for a game.

I think there should be a small amount of jump bonus, just not as extreme as it currently is. The jump height does need to be reduced a little bit.

Otherwise, well done, you're doing really well. Keep up the good work.

The jetpack will be lost at enemy contact, I like to give the player more freedom, or the burden to make it through the level unharmed with a jetpack to reach something good at the level end.

As for yoshy, it has been planned to first make the egg which comes out of the block and then spawns yoshy, but I never got the time to make the egg modell and a hatching effect.

These are allready done and currently chase you even through the roughest terrain and the player will need to kill those fast. I am currently thinking about giving them also a throwing weapon or making to different types of ninjas, one for close combat and one for the distance.

I uploaded a beta version for you to test,

it is best played with the Xbox 360 controller,

controlls and demo link are in the edited first post.

Feel free to post criticism and feedback here and thx for testing.
 
I can't play it on this PC, but the videos look amazing, so fluid and seamless. Nothing to suggest it's an indie game whatsoever (not that there would be).
