Red Skies

What you need to know.
Red Skies is a game that I have worked on for over 3 years now, I cannot emphasize enough that what I am writing in this topic is off the top of my head. As such it may not present a complete representation of the final story, features, or characters. The game has migrated over 4 diff game makers throught the years, but im ready to settle down now. Also I am still currently in a military training enviroment that severely restricts my time, so for the next month or so there will be very little progress made on the project. That having been said...

Story
As many stories begin with creation, so does the planet Aridai. Morzagog, a being of great magic, decided to create the planet of Aridai as a test of his power. Morzagog's lover Yveen, sensing the dangers of creating life clouded the planet from his vision. Cursing the planet she split the skies from reality, bending it away from the vision of Morzagog. Morzagog, feeling sorry that his creations would go to waste begged his lover to destroy Aridai. Instead Yveen gave his creations souls, so that only once fulfilling a life of their own could those of Morzagog's choosing be with him for eternity.

On the planet's surface itself, the world has evolved without divine intervention. Nations have seen rise and fall, and days pass. However the Emperor of Relia, Trestin Werlack who controls the force known often as the "Imperials" has begun to stretch forth his armies across the land. The world stands on the brink of total war.

And yet a new age of wonder has descended. The skies have began to fill with airships that can traverse the alternate reality created by Yveen. The race for technological superiority has begun, and the results have been amazing. Each nation trying to conquer the skies first. But few realize the dangers of travelling the skies, and slowly more and more never return.

You are a simple villager living in the forest nation of Carmien. You have no divine prophecy calling you, no crazy mage dropping in to speak of destiny. Your life will lead you slowly to a greater goal that will forever change Aridai. As any man, your actions will define the course of destiny. Do you make the world a better place to live... or do you control it with an iron fist.

Nations of Aridai
Carmian
This Nation has endured a lot of strife through the ages, it's forests when removed leave behind rich farming soil in a very hospitable climate for growing crops. This has led to many invasions over the nation's history.

Tribal Lands
Not much is known of these lands. The only thing that is well known is that if you try to invade these lands, no matter how large your army, you will find yourself facing an almost certain defeat at the hands of the legendary "Battle Kin". As such, they have beggotten large amounts of wealth from being hired as a mercenary army.

Airel
This large country and trading master has long been at war with Relia, the entire history is marked with bloody battles, often seeing them defeated, large tracks of land that were once theirs are now owned by the Imperials. A brutal and unforgiving people, they have been known to murder children simply because they were of Relia heritage.

The Relia "Imperial" Empire
The Relians are a unique people. Having spent the first years of their existance as a small group of slaves from Hilaughta. After the first rebellion, their leader decided to expand his vision, and through brilliant military tactics and propoganda, the empire has continued to spread. Smaller countries break under the might of its military and even other large empires sweat when speaking of the Relian military. Slowly under the might of the Emporer, Trestin Werlack, the nation's history is fading for the new "Imperial" movement.

Surmanian Isle
This land is dotted with harsh rocky landscapes and is plagued by volcanic eruptions. The people who live here are just barely advanced enough to trade over the seas. Any form of government here has long since dissolved, the "Seat of Kings" is controlled by the strongest warlord, none of whom have been able to hold onto power.

Yveen
Yveen, home of the temple to the goddess herself. It is said when Yveen cursed the planet that she left the temple as a sign of her power, that none should ever forget who had given them free will. The warriors of Yveen the "Tksais Knights" are almost all females, and have held the temple and surrounding lands for as long as written history can remember.

Morzagog
Morzagog much like it's sister nation of Yveen was named after the divine ruler. A plague has rocked this land for generations. The populace who seem to have grown immune have slowly created a self reliant society. Those travelling to Morzagog have often never been seen again, as it said the worshippers often sacrifice travellers, especially those bearing the marks of Yveen.

Hilaughta
The great Dremador desert covers most of its landscape, the people of Hilaughta have learned to survive in the worst of conditions. The desert includes a great caravan road which is the trading link between The new Imperials and themselves. Here also lies the remains of the Sarmation's, a once great empire responsible for most modern technology. What little remains of the Sarmation empire is only temples, ruins, and few scattered tribes.

Features
-Behavior system: Your actions and behaviors affect the outcome of most events in the game.

-Air Travel: One of the most important parts of the game, you have your own airship, which other than walking is your only means of transportation. The airship serves as your base, where you can restock your items, store money, even switch your party.

-Gender: Unlike most games you do not have to play one gender, instead you can choose to be male or female. Npcs will react according to not only your demeanor, but your gender as well.

-Class specifics: Despite the base skill set, you can choose to train a specific area which comes with skills usable both in and out of combat. For instance only a wizard could burn a tree out of his way to access a special area, or a fighter be able to parry with a blademaster for a prize. The three specifics are fighter, mage, and thief. (I will not add more for sake of it becoming too complex)

-No random battles: As of now the combat system remains a bit in question, I do know for sure that there will be no random battles. Why? Because I HATE random battles.

-Death: I hate the game over screen.... especially when I forgot to save, so instead of GO, you will simply lose a random equiped item and respawn at a nearby memorized location.

Screens
I'm afraid that the xp version has no mapping to show, I do have the title screen which I had completed long ago. As well as a VERY rough drawing of the world. I predict a good 4-5 weeks before I have any maps worth showing.

The Title Screen
I might mention that the characters on the left scroll whille the red comets are falling in the background.

VERY rough world map

A little has changed, such as the Imperials were not named Relia at the time I drew it, but meh too lazy to fix :-P

Help Needed
Once I finish my Army training I will need a lot of programming and artistical help, if you are interested in helping just let me know, so that I know who to contact when I have the time to do so. :D

Sorry if the topic is a little less "cool" than most peoples, I am a bit cut off from my main resources for the game at the moment. Hopefully not for too much longer though. Peace out.

This sounds awesome. This reminds me of Crimson Skies, and if this is done well it could be awesome. If you need an airship base to edit off of, I'm pretty sure I posted on in the Resource Analysis forum. Most likely isnt on the first page. Anyways, good luck.

Yea. Its a pretty good dog fighting game on the Xbox. Hard to find now, as its old, but I think it comes with Xbox Live.

EDIT: That aside, lets not get off topic..

Well, I like the fact that you've put some thought into the world and it's nations. A question though, does the world exsist of one continent or are their others? If so, can the player explore them?
