Recommended Video Recording Program?

I just got a new computer, and I was wondering what you guys would recommend as a program to record videos on my computer. Specifically, both the program and a codec. Now, I'm not talking about cheap 20fps RMXP, I'm talking 30 FPS full-quality wii games. Any suggestions? I prefer programs that can use a codec properly without a lot of dropped frames. Hopefully with editable recording settings. I have been using Snagit, but I'm not surte that is the best I could use.

The choice of codec is probably going to be mostly dictated by your software, however I personally feel AVI gets a good quality:size ratio and most people have something that can play it.

Well, yes. I was wondering which AVI codec you would recommend for the actual recording. (I know most programs have their own, but I realize that there are many more out there that have the potential to be even better)

I like XViD, but I'm not enough of a video geek personally to give you a big discussion about the pros and cons of the various options.

Well, I like xvid as well, but it is only suited to viewing, instead of recording. From what I gather, most distributed videos are recorded on special recording codecs, then converted to a common codec that most computers have so that it is more easily viewed.
