"Reaper" is a game concept I've had in my mind for well over a year. Since I want it to be a genuinely good game, I haven't worked much further than the first intro in RMXP, mainly because I want to work on the story more...lots more. In fact I'm constantly going over ideas for it.
Reaper is a story of elemental people trying to save the world from its own chaotic nature, which is destroying the worlds balance and slowly cracking the world. The 'hero' is a young man who works as a hired monster-killer, going by the code name of 'Reaper' because he has pale-white skin and hair and has to wear a long coat during day hours. He also uses a scythe.
His twin sister is the opposite, with dark-skin and black hair, however she looks like Desert Tribe people and is sort of accepted, while albinos have never been seen before.
They are made to go on a quest by two people trying to 'save the world'. The come along for their own reasons. Kari wants to see the world, and Blank wants to discover his fathers identity and get revenge for being abandoned as a child.

Backstory:
Many a millennia ago, people co-existed with the dominating elements of the time, including the 8 ‘cliché’ elements (Light, Dark, Fire, Ice, Water, Lightning, Earth and Air), as well as the two balancers, Chaos and Order. While Order governed the elements of Light, Ice, Lightning and Earth, Chaos governed Dark, Fire, Water and Air. People offered gifts to these great and powerful elements, and worshipped them greatly.
People first started to notice the world beginning to change after a great War spread over the globe. Every person was affected by the war, and nothing was spared in order to gain control over areas of land, even started massive fires in food fields. And as the fighting and conflict escalated, the balance between Chaos and Order began tipping. Soon not only was war affecting the world, but devastating tsunamis and tornados were appearing almost regularly, and the fires burned so brightly that the smoke filled the sky and the sun could no longer be seen.
Chaos could not be reigned in. No matter how much Order tried to counter-act them, he could not convince the Chaos elements that they were in the wrong. So, instead of trying to reason with the power-filled elements, he used his control abilities in conjunction with the Earth element to force all the elements to be born into human hosts. As they could not fully harness or remember their elemental abilities, they could not continue to harm the planet.
However, Chaos wasn’t happy with this. Fortunately for Chaos, the war between humans just continued to escalate beyond all measure, and Chaos continued to grow more powerful. Every person was at its whim. So Order came to the dreams of the human-incarnated Elements, and told them that they needed to return Chaos and Order to their rightful balance. His disciples obliged, and convinced their Chaos element counter-parts of the threat to the world. The Elements were soon hard at work to reign in the war, but as singular human beings, they could not hope to stop the greed in the hearts of the Kingdoms. Despairing, the almost lost all hope of the world, until a Chaos element suggested that they ‘siphon’ the over-abundance of the Chaos in the world into one of their own. The procedure would most likely kill them, but it would work.
Dark, being one of the most shunned and feared of the elements, offered his life in order to restore Order and Chaos to their rightful balance. The elements, however, even after their human incarnations passed away, never returned as leaders, and the elements were left on their own. Order doubted that they would do this without a purpose; they were waiting for Chaos’s second coming, when the world was yet again at the mercy of its own greed.
Thousands of years later, the tales of the humanly-incarnated Elements and the war to restore Order and Chaos to balance are mere legends, myths that have faded and become distorted as they pass from drunkard to drunkard in pubs. To know or believe the tales is nonsense, for evidence of these ‘so-called’ elemental governors has not been seen.
In fact, the world is currently devoted to a religion whose messiah was said to have come 1567 years from when our story begins. In actual fact, the entire religion and their beliefs were elaborated hoaxes created for some of the most backwards communities, who spread the stories far and wide and created a following far beyond what the hoaxers had ever wished for.
The world is split into two major continents. Damascus is the most widely habited continent, home to the highest amount of cities and major towns on the entire planet. Narilbiem, the other major continent, lies on such a broad surface that the uppermost tip is desert, while the bottommost is ice. The centre, which is mostly grasslands, is sparsely populated except for its major city. There are also other islands surrounding these countries, with an archipelago down the side of Narilbiem and a group of 20 or so islands around the bottom of Damascus. Stretching through the entirety of Damascus is the peculiarly gentle-flowing River Armistice that links about 12 towns together through the centre of the continent. The beginning town, Veria, is linked on this river.
The continent of Damascus and Narilbiem are currently at war, causing Chaos to yet again become unbalanced in the world. The elements sensed this great danger, and over the period of 30 years, they reincarnated themselves into human embodiers.

Plot Outline (Brief...sort of)
Story starts in the town of Veria. Blank and Kari are confronted by Snap and Geniviere, and are dragged along to save the world from over-abounding Chaos. The plan is to equally distribute the Chaos into 8 elemental Orbs, which are kept in Elemental Temples, and can only be unlocked by the Element themselves, which means they need to find all the elemental people. The town is set alight during a tavern stay, and after saving it they head to a nearby forest were they are attacked and robbed by a fiery-haired female thief. They follow and confront her, revealing it to be Sparks, the Fire elemental. After much convincing and some bribery she joins your group. The team then travels from town to town searching for clues on the whereabouts on other elements, while Blank tries to piece together who his father was and where he lives, him and Kari having been sent down the river at a young age after someone was paid to kill them. Blank got this information from the person but he did not know the identity of his father.
The clues about the Wind and Ice elements begin to combine and so do Blank's own clues, leading them to the continent's main city. During their stay Blank concocts a plan to discover his fathers identity by allowing him to be seen (his appearance being the main reason he was meant to be killed) and assuming his Reaper guise during nighttime. He eventually is summoned to the castle, where he meets a young man (about 6) who reminds him of himself. Growing wary at the revelation that the child is in fact Prince Krinos, the young heir to the throne, he makes his way to the room he had been summoned to.
Inside the King awaits. He is told to hunt down 'the pale boy' lurking around town, and is given a description exactly the same as Blank's own appearance. Upon the question 'why', the King bribes him with a decent amount of money to keep quiet and informs him that 'the pale boy' and his dark-skinned twin sister were in fact his first born children, who he thought he'd taken care of. They were supposed to be killed because their appearance was not suitable for heirs to the throne.
Numb from shock, he makes returns to the tavern the group was staying in, his shock turning to malevolent rage as he reveals what the King told him to the group. Sparks points out that this makes him and Kari royalty and he angrily declines this. Once nighttime falls, Blank leaves the tavern with the group and they sneak into the castle, where the King was holding council. The commander and second-in-command the battalions were in there and Geniviere points them out as perhaps being the Ice and Wind elements. Tired of waiting, Blank storms into the council room (killing many guards in the process) and confronts the King. During the scuffles, Commander Carlyle and second-in-command Egaile were knocked out. Blank speaks to the king and reveals his identity to him and asks why he can accept the other silver-haired young man in the room (Gale/Egaile) and not him. The King blabbers about purity and crap and Blank simply puts out that he couldn't bear to admit to himself that something that he created was different, because like all royalty of the recent years, he was a conformist. Blank then holds the scythe to the King's throat and asks if he has last words. He says that he regretted nothing. Blank tells him that if he'd apologised he would've spared his life, and then asks what his name is. The King tells him it's Axrielheim, and at those words he kills him.
The guards attack Blank while he's distracted and he's knocked out and dragged to the dungeons. He awakes to a soft voice saying the name the King had told him. Remembering it was supposedly his name, he wakes up. The queen is standing there with the little prince, and Blank also remembers that this little boy is his younger brother. Blank apologises to the queen but she thanks him. She gives him a scythe called Memoria and sets him free. Blank goes to the barracks, knocks both Egaile and Carlyle out and drags them away. The group meet up in a place they'd designated outside of town. They tie up the two men and as they wake they panic at the sight of Blank. He tells them he means them no harm and asks if they have special abilities aside from having funny-coloured hair. They tell them of Wind and Ice abilities and their nicknames, Gale and Frost. Geniviere fills them in on the details of their quest.
Gale gladly agrees to accompany them, and Frost has a condition that he will bring 'Axrielheim' to justice once the quest is over. Blank says fine as long as he never uses that name again, saying that any name concocted by the man that was his father is a name he does not want. They discuss possible locations of the last element, Water, and they go to an island at the bottom of the continent and meet her. She's alone and not sure how to talk to them, but agrees to journey with them if it means there was a reason that her parents died protecting her.
Now all party members are obtained, the player can choose which temples to visit by meeting a soothsayer who tells you which temples you should visit in order. (You can visit Earth, Ice, Fire, Lightning). You then need to go to the Dark temple. Upon reaching the location Kari is captured and Blank goes to rescue her alone. The Temples priests have 'sacrificed' her to the Dark Orb, and she is slowly dying right before Blank's eyes. In desperation he absorbs the Dark Orb out of her body as the rest of the group reach the Temple. Kari wakes up screaming Blank's name as he falls to his knees shuddering. She tries to touch him but he jerks back as if he touch is burning him (which it is). The priests say that he has unlocked the Chaos in his soul to save her and now he must show it to the world. They then begin chanting 'Axrielheim'. Blank slowly and painfully transforms into a huge, lithe, black dragon and he attacks the group. Unwillingly they fight and knock him out. He resumes human form, and they take him out of the temple.
He awakes with bleary memories and they tell him what happened. They ask why what happened did, and he says he thinks it's because he's evil, because of what he's done in his life. He also says that his 'real' name partially triggered what happened to him and expressly warns them not to ever utter the name unless they were willing to risk their lives.
They then visit the Light temple and get the light orb. They are then stumped on where the next temple is.
Blank sees a tiny dot in the sky that is not a bird and is unnatural. He uses his now stronger dark abilities to create black feathered wings and takes off into the sky to check it out. Gale, able to ride on generated wind currents, comes as well. They have to fight a few things then make it into a floating city high in the air, surrounded by a large, black dome to protect them from harsh sunlight, it seems. Blank disperses his wings and leaves two bloody gashes in his back. A woman with pale skin and silver hair takes them into her house and weaves a bandage around it. Noticing her colouring they ask her about it and she says that they're being silly and that everyone here has this skin tone. They two get excited and bounce around like 3 year olds and promise each other to move to the city when the quest is over. They return to solid land and take the rest of them up to the city. Kari accidentally touches Blank's wings as they reach the city and he leaves her with the group. He returns later and reveals that the contact triggered another transformation into the dragon. She apologizes and they go to the wind temple. The inhabitants of city give them an sky-earth-underwater technological vehicle (they are very technologically advanced compared to the land inhabitants) and then they go to the water temple.
Now that they have all 8 Orbs in their possesion, they go to the Chaos temple on 'the edge of the earth' where they meet someone unexpected; the first Darkness elemental, who tells Blank that Axrielheim was the name used for the Dark-Chaos creature that was created after the Darkness combined with Chaos the first time Chaos was overflowing. Blank almost transforms but he is rescued by Chaos (the woman) who says that in order to combine the worlds chaos with their orbs they have to fight the other half of the Chaos creature that is still in the Darkness temple. She gives Blank and amulet to prevent transformations if they are successful, but she tells him that if his name is said and he's not wearing it he'll transform. There's nothing he can do about it.
Accepting this they fight the final boss and stop the world from destroying itself.
A happy ending...maybe.

Maybe it's not that brief...
Characters:
Blank/Reaper
Age: 19
Hair: White
Eye: Light Blue
Birthday: August 4th
Blood Type: B
Weapon: Scythe
Element: Darkness
“Whatever. Call me what you like, buttmunch; it’s not going to make any sort of difference.”
Blank is an absolute jerk. Nothing pleases him more than baiting and annoying your fellow party members, except for perhaps killing stuff. Blank hates the world, and just about everyone one in it hates him in return! Blank, however, does have a soft side; although cruel beyond all comprehension, he cares deeply for his sister, misses his surrogate mother-figure, Pearl, terribly, and has a slight crush on another party member.
Aside from his sadism, Blank is also deceptive, cunning, and an extremely talented tactician. He’s not one to blindly leap into a fight, which often gives him an advantage over your often brash adversaries. Blank is relatively reserved with his opinions (he only opens his mouth to torment others) and has a nasty temper, having injured a village member many years ago.
Kari
Age: 19
Hair: Black
Eye: Chestnut Brown
Birthday: August 4th
Blood Type: O
Weapon: Flail (you know, those wicked-looking spiky ball things that could send a person’s head flying with one swipe)
Element: Light
“If you think I’m weak, buster, you’ve got another thing coming!”
Kari is Blank’s twin sister. Although generally a nicer person than her brother, she’s known to be snide and brutally honest at times, not afraid to hurt people’s feelings (though she is repentant if she reduces them to a crying wreck). Kari is also very confident in her abilities as a fighter and not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. She sometimes rubs people the wrong way (not literally, mind you!), i.e. annoys them, but she takes secret delight in doing it (and makes her brother so proud).
Sven "Snap" Erald
Age: 13
Hair: Blonde
Eye: Electric Blue
Birthday: March 22nd
Blood Type: O
Weapon: His fists
Element: Lightning
“I swear, if I ever get the chance, I’m going to beat that pale son of a bitch to a pulp!! It’s not in my nature to hurt others, but that guy…I just want to kill him.”
Snap is the youngest and brashest of the group. He follows his heart and not his head, which often leads him into trouble. He’s a genuinely nice guy, but he can’t take being made fun of. Unfortunately, this makes him Blank’s biggest and most reactive target of your entire party, starting from day one. It’s odd to see Snap being anything but angry and childish towards Blank, but his older and more cunning adversary takes it into his stride and turns just about everything Snap says on its head. As a result, Snap supremely hates Blank, more so than the idea of the world being destroyed!
Geniviere Augestin
Age: 21
Hair: Green
Eye: Emerald Green
Birthday: October 15th
Blood Type: O
Weapon: Tree branches
Element: Earth
"The fate of the world depends on us. Join our cause!"
Geniviere is a very unstable, unpredictable person. She jumps from emotion to emotion at times, and out of all of the Elements her bond is the strongest (the exception is Blank later in the game), so she’ll often start having discussions with trees or animals out of the blue. She is also the instigator of this entire adventure, and is determined to save the world because a tree told her too (more than a little creepy in everyone else’s opinion…). She’s a very breezy character and not easily fazed (because she’s never paying attention!), so seeing her alert is a rare and often ominous thing, because it means the Earth is sending her a message of dire peril.
Bethany "Sparks" Raima
Age: 22
Hair: Red
Eye: Gold
Birthday: July 26th
Blood Type: AB
Weapon: Scimitar
“Hehehe. This is going to be easy! I could wipe the floor with this guy with my eyes closed and my hands tied around my back.”
If this girl’s ego was any bigger the world would implode. Arrogant, cocky, and generally a self-centered person, Sparks loves to treat herself to the finer things in life. However, she can’t keep a job, and often resorts to stealing to get what she wants. She’s also lazy and easily bored, and it takes a lot to keep her entertained and interested. She was never accepted as a child and so has abandonment issues and can be clingy and whiney at times. She has genuine interest in Blank romantically, believing him to be her ticket to an easy life because of the relatively high amount people pay to have creatures killed.
Egaile "Gale" Ekriste
Age: 24
Hair: Silver
Eye: Grey
Birthday: November 21st
Blood Type: A
Weapon: Shurikens attached to ribbons that are joined onto his clothing. He uses his wind abilities to alter air flows so the blades never come into contact with anyone he doesn't want them to. (Inspiration: Agito's weapons from Air Gear)
"I fight for whatever interests me. Right now my interests lie with the King, so prepare yourselves"
Despite his position as second-in-command of the King's best battalion, Gale actually hates to be tied down. Known for a tendency to 'bounce' from interest to interest, he's unhappy with his life and is looking for an escape. A relatively down-to-earth, quiet man, he takes pride in his abilities as a fighter but tends not to be much of a show-off. He finds it difficult to hold grudges as well, though he does carry some contempt for regular people because of his rough childhood. (Hey, it wouldn't be fair if Blank was the only one picked on for his looks). He doesn't really like committing to anything whatsoever, and was forced into the army by his best friend and the commander of the battalion, Frost, who have been friends since they were six. Gale, despite is flighty nature, is one to protect the weak and crush the strong, and not one to let people down trod those who cannot fight for themselves. However, he may get into trouble for underestimating one of your party members...
Carlyle "Frost" Sadamine
Age: 27
Hair: Light Blue
Eye: Light Blue
Birthday: May 29th
Blood Type: B
Weapon: Sword
"My allegiance is still with the kingdom, and once the world is safe, I dedicate my life to bringing you to justice"
A stoic, reserved and very loyal man who has served the kingdom faithfully for most of his adult life. He wears imaginary blinders to the world, refusing to see anything but what he wants to see. In this sense, he is also very much a stubborn, ignorant person who doesn't like to argue and has the complete and utter belief in 'I'm right and whoever I believe in is also right (except Blank, who he thinks is an absolute jerk).' He travels with your party unwillingly and under death threat (from Blank), mainly because of 1. Blank's actions halfway through the game and 2. He has a wife and a 6-month-old daughter at home.
River Sweltusta

"I want to make a difference. I want to make sure my parents didn't die in vain"
River is a young woman who lives alone on a small island off the coast of the main continent. She's generally quiet, but opinionated and strong-willed. Her parents made her leave the small town she was raised in after villagers decided that she was not 'human' and went to attack her. She watch helplessly from the boat as the people tied her parents to posts and burnt them alive as a warning for her to never come back. River tries to stay positive but has a hard time doing it, and is usually the most emotional and sad person in your group. She often feels lonely and disconnected from the group, as though they are on a different wave-length to her. Most of the group don't know how to comfort her when she goes into a 'quiet spell' but Blank always gives it his best to cheer her up, her being the only member of your party (aside from Kari) that Blank doesn't treat like crap.
Age: 19
