Question about $game_map.events

When inserting a script into the event editor, is there any way to get the event's properties with $game_map.events without having to use it's ID number, you know, self-reference. I see in some of the scripts there are some parameters prefixed with self. Thanks in advance.
 
Thanks, although I figured out a different way around it. You see, I wanted to loop over the $game_map's entire array of events and perform a method to activate their individual self switches based on certain conditions, which I have figured out.
