question about animated battlers and char sets

I've been seeing great character sets and animated battlers in the "Resource Analysis" sections and i'm loving them..

Are there any programs used for creating these character sets and battlers?? I wanted to try making myself ahaha..

I'd recommend using Photoshop if you have it, the GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, GraphicsGale, whatever floats your boat.
I'd read up on some spriting and join an Academy first, though. Just my two cents.
(By the way, this is in the wrong board... it should be in General Support. I've reported it for a move.)
