PSP newbie~

Okay, I have absolutely no idea how to download games for the psp. You guys know any sites that provide downloadable game files?

Well it's not quite so simple as 'download games, transfer to psp, voila fun happy times'. For the vast majority of homebrew stuff (which I can only assume is what you mean), you have to have a specific firmware support. 1.00 or 1.50 is basically the... format I suppose, everyone uses. In your PSP folder, you have PSP/GAME and it's here you put your homebrew stuff. But that's only if you're actually on 1.00 or 1.50 (and if you got your psp any time recently, you're not on those unless you've been toying with it).

Well. It's kind of hard to go through it all. Go to the settings tab (far left in the PSP XMB), then scroll down to system settings, scroll through their until you reach like... PSP Specifications or something, I don't remember what it's called too clearly. It'll say in there what firmware you have. Just say that, and someone will generally be able to link you to places to walk you through the whole process of this.

Also: you might break the thing trying. Unless you have a very early PSP model (like I do), there's a small chance of HORRIBLE ERROR which will kill the thing. So yeah. Watch out, weigh your chances, do whatever.

Demos yes, but they are evil in that they mae you update your firmware. If you are under 3.03 You are in luck... You can downgrade and then upgrade to a custom 3.03 or 3.10 firmware. Yay you. You need GTA:LCS to do it though. Find out more at psphacking101...

Homebrew is usually just watered down versions of computer apps. There's quite a few demos out there, though..
Even PSP hacker extrodinaire Dark_Alex bricked his psp recently. So remember what you're risking when you mess with this downgrading/xmb editing stuff.

Actually there is a very simple easy to use Device Hook, which is a firware emulator, it'll trick your psp into thinking it's a higher firmware than it actually is, which is needed when you play the downloaded games.

Then there's alot of folder you put into you psp by usb link, on of them being called 'ISO', then you can download .iso files from sites and put them into that folder, load the Dev Hook on you psp, choose the game you want to load and there it goes.

The only flaw in the system is that after you exit a game, you need to completly shut down you psp before you can load a new game.

I really doubt the majority of ISO files you get are legal... Unless you're talking about backups of your own games. Word to the wise, read a LOT of tutorials about downgrading PSP's, get to 1.5, then 3.10 OE-A And voiala, it takes a bit of getting used to to get all the homebrew to run, but you'll do it eventually. If you want to, get a LEGAL copy of a game you own, and use that (if you have a 2GB or more mem stick) because it cuts down battery usage, and I think it also speeds up loading (though I could be wrong). I downgraded my second PSP on wednesday, so if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

Yeah, you need custom firmware (Dark_Alex's custom firmware) or devhook. Both will let you run ISO's but custom firmware has more stuff and such... oh by the way you need to downgrade to 1.50 to run custom firmware (stored on flash mem.) of devhook on ya mem stick. Heres the links...
Downgrader AIO (all in one - this is the best way) there is a small risk of this bricking your psp.
Custom firmware 3.03 oe-c
oh and if you wanna stay at ver. 1.50 here's devhook
Then you get your back-up (iso) and you can run it... any more questions pm me.

That's right. Bricking PSPs with ilegal software is not caused by using it, but by editing the PSP's flash (or whatever).
