PS3 Games - Which Ones Are Good and Which Ones Are Great?

I've been working towards getting a part-time job [but as God would have it they don't hire many 15 year old kids anymore] and because I have so much free time until I DO find a legal job, I've been checking up on some of the PS3's games. This is the list I've composed from oldest to newest:

-Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
-F.E.A.R.
-Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2
-Call of Duty 4*
-Kane and Lynch: Dead Men
-Assassin's Creed*
-Time Crisis 4
-Devil May Cry 4
-Army of Two
-Grand Theft Auto IV
-Metal Gear Solid 4*
-Soul Calibur IV
-Disgaea 3
-Madden 09*
-Mercenaries 2
-Fracture
-Blitz: The League II
-SOCOM: US Navy SEALS - Confrontation
-Dead Space
-Little Big Planet*
-Far Cry 2
-Guitar Hero: World Tour
-Rock Band 2
-Bioshock
-Fallout 3
-Resistance 2
-Mirror's Edge
-Need For Speed: Undercover
-Killzone 2
-inFAMOUS
*I already intend to get these games

I was wondering if anyone with a PS3/360 [God help me] has played any of these games, and wanted to know if they were worth buying.

Well, let's see.
Oblivion wasn't bad, but if you're going to get it and your computer can handle it, I'd definitely get it on there instead. Mods and such.
COD4 is a fun multiplayer game, and the single-player campaign isn't bad. If you're a fan of the genre, go for it.
Soul Calibur I liked, but if you don't have someone to play it with, the single player is very repetitive.
Little Big Planet I haven't played yet, but it looks pretty neat.

Hope that helps.

Eh, my computer can't even run Halo.

And thanks, I've heard some great stuff about CoD4, mostly the multiplayer. I really like stuff along those lines, and killing people over the internet with zero real-life reprimanding is EXACTLY what I live for. Consider this bought.

Soul Calibur is another one I heard good stuff about, but I couldn't help but think of all the boredom that sets in once you realize "I'm just doing the same stuff over and over" even against friends. SSBB kinda killed fighting games for me.

Yeah, Little Big Planet doesn't seem to really have a plot, but user-generated content sounds FUCKING AWESOME. I dunno if I wanna buy it solely for that reason though. I think I'll wait for real-life friends to buy it, or some internet buddies at least. Thanks Grath :D

Right now, Little Big Planet as an exclusive looks like the only reason I would ever consider shelling out the cash necessary to buy a PS3 -- that's an immense compliment because I'm a tightwad. It looks like an immensely solid platformer, and the multiplayer aspect looks like it's being integrated very well. Being able to play other people's levels gets it right in the "replay value" category, too.

For the record, Kane and Lynch apparently got horrid reviews. If you can avoid buying it, then avoid buying it. The Guitar Hero series hasn't been the same since Harmonix left the ticket, so I'd recommend Rock Band over it as well.

Bioshock is a beautiful little shooter with some really amazing story and atmosphere and a lot of versatility in how you can handle situations. Its one big weak point is that (as far as I know) there's no multiplayer mode (on the 360 at least,) but you should definitely look this one up anyway.

Out of curiosity, do you already own a PS3 or would you be buying one? I ask because everything I'd recommend (and almost everything you're already buying) aside from Little Big Planet has been released on the 360, and I hardly think that one game is enough to support a six hundred dollar console.

Actually, I'm looking towards buying a PS3. I don't intend to have the job for too long, either. I had contemplated purchasing a 360 for a long time, to be honest. I mean, I've been a member of the Sony fan community since the original PSX. So when I saw some of the exclusive 360 titles, I really changed my tune, and planned on getting one. But, it came to my attention that XBOX Live costs money to have. And since I only intend on keeping this job long enough to buy a console and great-quality games for it, I definitely don't want to pay for a great multiplayer experience. My parents don't even give me an allowance, so they certainly wouldn't pay whatever Live costs. And I have faith in the PS3. Who cares if it doesn't outsell the 360 or the Wii? If it has good games, they will come. And as long as I don't ever have to pay for multiplayer, I don't give a damn.

Ranting aside, I guess Little Big Planet will certainly be higher-up on my Wishlist. I haven't played a solid platformer since Super Paper Mario or whatever it was called. And the ability to share custom-created maps will definitely add on to that multiplayer flare I'm looking for.

Really? I haven't heard anything about Kane and Lynch at all since my subscription for Game Informer was up, oh, almost two years ago? I thought it looked like a real solid game. Oh well.

Ugh, I keep hearing that about GH, but I dunno... I mean, I admired Rock Band for grasping the idea of instruments and everything, so I might end up buying both titles for the songs. And I think Rock Band II has more DLC than GH:WT? I digress. I'll probably get Rock Band 2.

Yeah, I liked the retro feel Bioshock gave off when I watched one of the videos. I haven't played a solid shooter in ages, since I owned BLACK, which is possibly the most realistic shooter for the PS2 ever. Wish there would be a sequel for the PS3 T_T

Thanks though Miek :D

Please remove Soul Calibur IV from that list. Anyone who played the game past 5 minutes (exaggerated of course) knows it's bullshit for many reasons. Also, Army of Two is alright but only if you intend to do a lot of onlining, the story is kinda short IMO. Otherwise from the game I know that list is accurate enough.

Out of your list, there are the exclusives from the PS3, incase you didn't know.

You forgot one of the best games out on the PS3.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
That game is nothing short of amazing. Worst problem is that it's a bit short.
Other than that, it's a very solid game and has good replay value.

Uncharted IS a good game. The new Tomb Raider will be coming out soon too. Silent Hill just came out that I'd recommend.

Let's see ...

Oblivion's good, though I only have the PC version

FEAR's good, though it's SHORT and I only have the PC version

COD4's good, though I only have the PC version

Assassin's Creed it alright, though I only have the PC version

DMC4 is pretty slick.

GTAIV is cool but it gets old kinda fast. Faster than the past iterations, IMO. Worth a rent, if anything :)

MGS4 IS AMAZING. It's one of my favorite games of all time!

SC4 is fun, especially with some friends. It's the exact same deal as all the other Soul Calibers, but I like em.

I am REALLY looking forward to Little Big Planet, Dead Space, Far Cry 2, and Fracture. I mean, I'm like, slathering over them.

Bioshock is excellent. Though I only have the PC version

Fallout 3 looks sweet ass.

The others on your list, I either haven't played or haven't read much on them.

Some indy games in the PS Network to definitely check out are:

Mega Man 9
Echochrome
Pixel_junk.eden
--Oh, there's one with zombies, can't remember the name ATM.

The indy games are only $10.

I signed up for GameFly so I could play all these games for MUCH cheaper than buying all of them. If you're in the continental U.S., I'd really recommend GameFly to save yourself $$$$.

Uncharted is A great game, cuz its like a movie. plus a sequel is coming (YEY!!!!)
Tombraider Underworld, is this game looking tight or what

PS3 is in the process of unleashing all its great games it is Know for giving out
but if you can get a game for your computer it is better all the way.

Definitely definitely definitely get Bioshock. No questions asked. Bioshock. You, literally, can play that game however you want. The story is incredible, and highly immersive, as is the environment. The absolute best part is that no 2 rooms look alike in any possible way (except that they might have a chair or a desk, but they look so different between rooms/levels). It's absolutely amazing. Another reason why it is so good, is you can go through the game never fighting anyone, or you can kill everything in sight. I managed to play the entire game using only 2 weapons (one actual gun and one plasmid), and most of the time it was only the plasmid (except on the boss..). Great great game.

Assassin's Creed, to be honest, isn't worth the money, imo. It's much too repetitive. It's much too repetitive. It's very repetitive. Repetition. I'm not too happy with spending 60 bucks on the game (I got it when it came out, no clue if it's gone down in price by now). It's a fun game, and graphically incredible. Just very repetitive.

MGS4. Getttttttttttttttt.

As for the rest, I don't really know, since I have Vegas 2 on the computer.

What!?  God damn unmotivated kids these days.  Keep your fucking job and save your money.  You can buy your PS Triple but don't stop working.  This is a horrible attitude.  Save now and by the time your 18 and out of highschool you could have a decent chunk of cash to actually go to college or even live off a couple of months while you're searching for a job.  If your parents are any good they'll stress this.  I hope you don't go to the job interview saying to your boss "Yeah I only plan on working for a months paycheck then I'm going to say fuck you and play my ps triple."

Too bad 50% of those titles are available on other systems.

What are some reasons for it's bullshittiness? And yeah, I intend to do a LOT of online gameplay, with whatever games I can afford to get.

Bro, let me tell you something, when I rented a PS3 back in April and got Lair and Drake's Fortune, I really didn't want to return the latter. I'm not a fan of puzzle games, but the action and gunfights always had my heart pumping. The graphics were enough to make me believe I was watching a movie, yet I had control over Drake's every little move. I've beaten the game, but is there any real reason to go back and replay it, other than the fact that PS Network has Trophies for it now?

Ugh, I was hoping GTA IV would be better than the past games. The graphics look way better than ever, but I honestly don't know if I could handle having a Russian accent for a whole game, and listening to the cutscenes, anyways.

Yeah, MGS4 is going to be the first game I get. I think it comes with a PS3 nowadays, which is fucking AWESOME. I tried watching all the cutscenes on Youtube so I didn't have to sit around for 20 hours, but I'll probably watch the cutscenes all over again anyways.

Actually, I never knew PS Network even HAD indy games. Fucking sweet.

It's good to hear some more good things about Bioshock. This game got me really excited when it first came out.

Assassin's Creed is only about $25 now. Sony's got their Greatest Hits out already. I keep hearing that it's repetitive, but I've only played the first hour or two of it. I'll rent it before I buy it, at least.

You know what? You're right. I dunno if I'll have that job, per se, but if I can find a better paying job, I'll certainly get that one instead. I really only wanted a job for the time being for some great games and the PS3, but I see where you're coming from. I keep forgetting that college is literally just around the corner. Thanks Marcus. :D

And thanks to everyone who's decided to help me so far. I really really appreciate your opinions and feedback.

Skyler, it's "bullshit" because of many reasons. Repetitive, custom creation is pathetically stupid (you must look like a complete dork to have good stats like attack, or you must look really awesome but have crap stats), Tower of Lost Souls is the worst waste of time ever as the rewards aren't that good and it doesn't have anything fun to add to the Soul Calibur series, Story has NO story whatsoever besides maybe if you can guess a little bit of it from when the character talks, and online has a really bad system (I believe a recent patch fixed it, but still it's stupid). That good enough for you?

Well, I'll probably rent that one before I own it now. Thanks Anopob :D

Does anyone else have anything to add? I recently watched an X-Play Exclusive Premiere on Fallout 3, the shooter RPG that looks SO FUCKING AWESOME. Think Oblivion IV, only with guns and in the post-apocalyptic 1950's in Washington, D.C. Most of the buildings are torn down and everything, but in my opinion, that makes them look sweeter. The graphics look great, the combat system looks great, and the leveling system looks far superior than any RPG I've seen in my life (including Oblivion's). I might just be a fan of shooters and RPGs in general, but a shooter RPG just sounds like a brilliant idea.
