Prologue Scenes Craft Style [Tutorial Inside!!!]

Update:
Part One of the Tutorial is done ( Illustrator )
Check it out here: http://anothera.net/v3/tutorials

_______________

in my project I want the prologue texts to have accompanying illustrations. I'm trying out this naive style vector mix with texture.
So this is a concept development WIP. what do you think? which concept you like better?

wip gonna make this into an origami feel. it will need more shadows and textures=>

I like the idea, but the execution is a bit less than what youre looking for i guess. OK, youre using vectors so...that dosent mean you can only use one tone, try adding some shape to the earth at the bottom, it took me a second to realize it that, thats what it was. Maybe add some shadows in there too, showing at least some hint of maybe rubble or broken earth. And for the actual texture, maybe you could try grabbing some real world textures, using the cutout tool on them then adding a multiply layer at about 10%. Look at okami, its cell shaded, or the 3d equivalent of vector but theres still discernible textures there.

yeah good idea man. I was using gradient mesh but it made it too 3d and i liked it more flatter. i will try cell shading like in okami. Also i will try the filter idea sounds good

Retried art style. I dont have a tablet with me atm and using the touchpad so ill have to wait till tomorrow to continue shading. fingers hurt lol

Ok, i like what youve done so far, i think we could add a bit more detail to the water, right now its looking like 3rd grade art class. Just go in and add like 4x more ripples at the tip and go in with a lighter blue and do the same in the mid section, then do that same thing again with a darker blue, then go touch it up with some highlights.

Oooo, me likey. Very nice on the design of the water and clouds. I really like what you have done here. This is much of an improvement from the beginning!

thanks.

i am working on another piece for this series and am thinking of writing a tutorial for it. I have a lot of screenshots captured of the design progress. If anyone wants the link when im finished leme know.

I wasnt done with illy yet actually. I think this might be the end of the illy part before I go onto texturing it.

I would drop the opacity of the bubbles so that you can see through them fairly easily. I really like the way the first one is turning out, though.

wow bro i love this style you got goin on, and you are right on with the colours, after seein ur artwork i wanna know more about your game! hope to see more in tha future
