Hello, this is my first post here, but this forum looks really great. Anyway, well, this is my first game, and it's not even really a game yet...it's more of an idea at this point. But an idea I am going forward with none the less. A very good friend of mine whom I have known in real life for over 5 years are going to be developing this. We have formed a two man team that we have dubbed "Biumvirate Studios" that we plan to create games with. As I mentioned before, this is our first venture into game making, and we hope to make it count. The first version of the game is going to be developed with RPG Maker XP, but our dreams and aspirations for this project go far beyond that. We plan to learn and absorb as much programming as we can throughout the course of this projects development, and hopefully have it eventually exceed what RPG Maker XP is capable of doing. But thats not a realistic goal at this point. Everything is in the planning phase at the moment, and everything said is subject to change, but this is the first build of our general story and characters. The character designs are not done yet, and we plan on adding 3 more. The locations are not yet finalizedeither, as I have a lot to do in that department. I'm doing the story, characters, dialogue and all that good stuff. My buddie will be giving input into all that stuff, as well as all the RPG Makerifying. We'll both be recording real music for this as well, since I'm a pretty decent guitarist, and he is a very skilled pianist. We also each plan to do a voice for the characters, and get some other friend to lend their voices to our characters. But anyway, lets get to the details!

-Story Outline-
The story revolves around a boy about 17 years old, living in Sageport city, the capitol of Reth, one of five countries on the contitent of Axias. The boy has grown up alone, and had to do everything in life himself. He has no parents, and no one in the city can seem to recall him ever having parents either. Recently, Sageport, along with five other cities in Axias, has had a silver tower built within it's vicinity. The towers were built over the course of the past seven years by a mysterious people from across the sea, who have appeared somewhat out of the blue. No one had ever seen or heard of them before the first tower was built. The only thing the anyone, both the rulers of Axias and its people, knows about them is that they are much further along as a society than anyone on Axias, and they have no clear intention of conquering or taking over anything on Axias. They purchased the land rights to all of the locations the towers were built with an absurd amount of gold. So much gold was paid for the land that it almost seems like money is worthless to them. They told the people of Axias that the towers were a monument to their local gods. But its clear to everyone that that's not the case. If that were true, they would be allowed into the said towers, which they are not. No one risks going near them out of fear. Rumors quickly spread throughout Axias about how people that go near them tend not to be seen ever again. One of the main questions the story addresses is about the nature of these towers, and what these people from across the seas really want.
Now, thats a bit of background on the world. As I mentioned before, the main character is a boy about 17 years old who has had to live by himself his entire life. He works in one of the many shops in Sageport in order to support himself, and manages to get by. The fact that he has a job is rather shocking to him, considering he is the local outcast. His aloof nature and his silver eyes make the locals hate him. Local superstition tells the tale of a demon who destroyed a once great ancient society, and plunged the world into chaos. But this job and normal life was not meant to last. One day, while on the job, someone claims to have seen him stealing something. He is immediately reported to Sageport Royal Guard. Chased from the shop, the he does goes to the one area he knows no one will dare follow him through; Sageports tower.
Without going into a whole lot further about the plot, it has to do with the need of balance. It goes into a lot into some of my personal opinions on the nature of light and darkness and how without the balance between the two, neither would exist.

-Characters-
Aleister(name not final)
Age:17
Height:6'2
Hair Color:Light Brown
Eye Color:Light shade of Silver
Weapon of choice:Sword(rather cliche...might be changed)
Aleister has always felt somewhat alienated from the city he lives in. An orphan, he has lived alone his entire life. He has managed to support himself through hard work. He has had to walk a road that is seldom travled by people of his age, but despite all this, he has been relatively happy about the way his life has gone. But he does long for more. All his life he has felt like there is some sort of greater purpose for him, something that he has not been doing. But he could never put his finger on it. The people of Sageport, for the most part, dislike his presence. One of the distinctive features about Aleister is his dark, silver eyes. Local legend tells of a demon with the same eyes who destroyed a once great ancient society, leaving the world in the chaos it is in at it's present state. Because of this, no one has offered to take him in or help him in anyway. Aleister currently works at a general store in Sageports busseling market district. The owner of the store is one of the few people that trusts him enough to be willing to hire him. The same can not be said for his coworkers. On one particularly busy day, one of the aforementioned coworkers claims that he stole from the store. Because the owner was away, the situation escalated, and soon the Sageport Guard arrived. Aleister knew that if they had any reason at all to lock him out, they would never let him out. Knowing this, he fleed. With the guard closing in, he decided to run to the one place he knew they would not give chase; the Sageport tower. He runs into the tower(located off the coast of Sageport on a Jetty)

Leif Varlmont XII
Age:26
Height:6'5
Hair Color:Green
Eye Color:Brown
Weapon of choice:Axes
Leif was born into a noble warrior family in Reth. A Varlmont has been the captain of the Sageport Royal guard for over a thousand years. Leif was expected to carry on that legacy, and his blend of size, strength, and talent with an axe led all to believe that he would be the successor to his uncle as guard captain. But Leif was cut from a different cloth than the rest of his family members. Despite his size and strength, he was much more interested in what he could do with his brain rather than what his body could do. At a very young age, Leif showed signs of being a genius. He was a natural architect, and by the time he was 13, some of his designs were being built. By the time he was 15, he had completed the highest level of education available in Reth. On his 18th birthday, surprising no one, he was the offered the position he seemed to be born for. But Leif decided to pursue other interests. He found his way into the Ethini Forest settlement after a few years, and quickly established himself as the leader there. Despite the settlement being as far from civilization as any settlement can be, Leif built it up as well as well as it could possibly be, designing and building a structurally brilliant town with severely limited resources. Humble and down to earth, his only character flaw is his well earned reputation as a womanizer. Personality wise, he is laid back and easy going despite his accomplishments. Leif is also able to keep his natural disposition in strenuous and stressful situations. He loves problem solving, and most times he has a solution to nearly every one he is confronted with. Despite his mental prowess and problem solving ability, he is somewhat naive and trusting,

Claude
Age:21
Location:Aria Tower
Weapon:None
Height:5'10
Eye Color:Red
Claude was born into a small farm family, and not much was expected of him. His sibling were nothing special, and Claude was expected to turn out just like them. But Claude was different. One night, when his family was hosting a traveling mage, the mage noticed his ability to manipulate fire, a rare skill in todays world. The day after, Claude was tested to enter into Aria's prestigious magic academy. The test, which had the reputation for being extremely hard, proved to be the opposite for Claude, and the results showed that he had more potential than any student that had applied in the past 15 years. At the age of 5, he was taken to attend the university, away from his family. As with a lot of children taken into the university at a young age, Claude developed an ego problem, and often thinks he is better than those around him. He excelled in dark magic, and was taught to hurt things. And he learned as well as anyone could, which might have played a role into his subsequent expulsion from the university. Five years before the start of the game, Claude was set to graduate valedictorian, but shocked the entire magic community when he killed a female student. No criminal charges were brought against him because of his special immunity from said charges as a student of the university, but because no offense as extreme had ever been committed, the rules were ratified immediately after. His motives for the killing were never totally clear, and when asked, Claude himself was not sure why he killed her. But one thing that was clear was that Claude showed no remorse or regret at his actions, or the ramifications of his actions. For the past five years, he has sold his magic abilities to the highest bidder, and there is quite the demand for him with the wars going on. As of late, he has been working with the nation from across the sea, guarding the top of Aria's tower.

Silen
Age:28
Height:6'0
Location:Opet
Weapon:Knives
Eye Color:Black
Hair Color:Black
Silen was born in Opet, the city of the moon, in a family that was socially positioned as well as any family in the City of Opet could be. As a child, he was rebellious, and not well received by his family. He was thrown out by the time he was 12. Alone and on the streets, he attempted to live as a beggar, which might have worked in a city as rich as Sageport. But Opet was a shell of what is used to be by the time Silen came to the streets. After a year of nearly starving every month, he decided he needed to do something he would have otherwise never imagined. He started stealing, and found he was very good at it. Not only was it easier for him in Opet than it would be for him in other places, he found he was very good at it, and quickly realizes he is a natural thief. By the time he reached 19 years of age, he had unified and organized the thieves of Opet into a group he named the Gray Reapers. He became a local legend quickly, The Gray Reapers went as far as to challenge the authorities, something they took notice of. Silen was the best theif in a theives den city. The authorities knew they had to catch him all costs. So they set a trap for him. They spread rumors of a legendary sword came into town, and Silen, being young an anxious to make a statement to all of Opet, fell for it. A confrontation ensued, but the authorities were not able to catch him. However, he was grazed with an arrow on the way out. He did not know that that arrow would end all his hopes and dreams. Still running from the Opet City Guard, he started to hallucinate. The arrow was dipped in a seldom used poison that rotted the mind of the person infected with it temporarily. He begun to think that he was screaming constantly. No matter what he did, he could not stop screaming. Being in mentally unstable state, he did something extreme. He took one of his knives to his mouth, and deformed it to the point where he could no longer make any coherent sound. He collapsed from blood loss, and was lucky to survive. He awoke two days later and was disgusted and horrified by what he had done to himself. At that moment, he swore to himself that he would never make any sound again, although he could still form a few basic words. To be sure of this, he sewed his mouth shut loosly, so that he could still eat, but it would be obvious to anyone who saw him that he would not be speaking with them. He disappeared from the Grey Reapers after that, and for the past 3 years has been imprisoned.
-Locations-(Nowhere near completed, ALOT more will be added, and details will be added to all of these)
Reth
The largest country in all of Axias, and the most powerful by a hair.
Sageport
Reth's largest city. A port city where Aleister has spent his entire life. Located directly on the coast.
Ethini Forest
A large forest in between and Aria and Reth. Uncivilized and rural, it has only one settlement in the middle of it, with a thriving logging community.

Aria
The second country on Axias. Known throughout all of Axias for having the highest population of magic users.
Vyth
The capitol of Aria, and the home of the Aria Magic University. A cultured city with an emphasis on intellectual achievement.

Opet(not a country, but a very large territory with one city)
A desolate wasteland. Thousands of years ago, it is said that there was a fight between a god and a demon near Opet, with the demon coming out on top, throwing to the earth, creating a large crater. Legend says that ever since then, it has always been night. There is one city, sharing it's name with the territory. Poor and desperate, it is populated by theives and vagrants.
-The Witherwood:A cursed forest border on Cynth. No one has entred in many years, as it is populated by beasts and

Isial
A mountiouns area populated by fur trappers. The average tempature is 30 degrees, and it is almost always snowing. Very large country, the second largest in all of Axias. It is said that the surviors of the conflict grouped towards Isial for protection from the abomonations born into the world from the great clash.
-Hope Mountain Range: a chain of mountains that stretch all along the border. In order to get into the heart of Isial, one must pass through the mountains
-Seelatrion:The capitol of Isial. Thriving trapping economy. Located right outside the Hope Mountain range. Despite being inaccessible to most of the population of Axias, it has a fairly large population, given the extreme conditions it has been built under. In years past, when the weather was less extreme, it was the largest city in all of Axias. It is the oldest standing city in the world today.
-Eulonana: a small port town located on the northnern most point in Isial, which makes it the northern most settlement in all of Axias. Despite it's size, nearly everyone in it is rich, considering it is a hotspot for the fur exchange.
-Frozen Forest-The only forest left in Isial. No trees have grown there in 500 years. All the remaining trees and plants are frozen, but preserved. Legends say that a fang of the great demon lays somewhere deep within
-Cave of the Frost Wyrm: A deep crevice within the earth that was created by a frost Wyrm a thousand years ago. The wym is rarely seen, but recent reports confirm that it is still alive. Many adventurers have entred to never return out again. Scales of such an ancient wyrm are worth a fortune.

Anyway, thats not all we have, theres a lot more, but one thing I always hate about Independent games is when they give away to many of the story details. I have 20 pages dialogue written(Probably 2 or 3 hundred eventually) and we have the story outline finalized. We plan to start development this summer, and hopefully finish the first edition of the game by the time we graduate(we're both 15). We might have a lot figured out thus far...but we still need help! If anyone wants to get involved, particularly with with the art, that would be great. We have a few pieces of concept art of the locations, but I have really bad motor skills, and my friend is not the greatest artist either. If anyone would be willing to do some art for us for awhile, we would appreciate it quite a bit, and while we're probably not going to ever make any money off of this, if we ever do, you would get your share of it. We also are in desperate need of a spriter. If anyone would like to sprite for our game, it would help this project along immensely. The same things about money go for spriting.
Anyway, I'll close this thread with a piece of concept art my friend did for Opet. It's a bar that many events in the city will take place out of called the Toadstool.

If the response to this is good, I'll keep this thread updated with the projects progress. Right now we are working on finalizing the character designs(still need art), getting a website up, and furthering the script along. I'm not sure if I mentioned if before...I probably already have, but to be safe, this is in the planning stages and will start we will start development this summer. We just want to do it right, and get the right personal to help us out. Anyway, any comments or critique will be appreciated. If anyone would like to become involved in this project, thank you in advanced. A post in this thread will do if so, but the absolute best way to express such an interest would be in an email. My email address is daylightd1ies@gmail.com.
Thanks for reading! :)

We are still looking for both an artist and a spriter. If you can fill either position, even on a temporary basis, please contact me immediately.
EDIT:
Music Preview; this song was played live. We didn't have a high quality recorder, so the quality is bad. Most of the music will be piano driven, with a guitar riff here and there.
Rough Gameover Preview

Okay this looks good but I'd like to point out two bad points I noticed.

1. Writing. I think your writing is one of the big weak points in your topic because I can tell from having just read it you're not a writer.

I think you should hire a writer because right now the style seems like you're talking to me rather than selling your game to me, the descriptions and story are long winded and not set out too spectacularly.

A hired writer should be able to get you a well set out character description and the story written so it's easier to absorb and it won't seem like a chore to read through.

2. Layout. You're gonna need a nice simple layout that makes it clear which parts are which and so you know where and what you're reading, right now it's all the same e.g.

Heading
Sub Heading 1
Sub Heading 2
Text

It should be:

Heading
Sub Heading 1
Sub Heading 2

Text

It makes it clear what section you're reading and who or what you're reading about.

Other than that it looks good, if you wanna get a writer then make a thread in recruitment and you can ask for your concept artist(s) and spriter(s) there also. Whilst you don't have to take my advice I think it'd be a good idea if you do because this project looks promising and I wanna see it in action.

That's the short version as well 0_0...I'm not going to hire a writer though, since I do pride myself on being a good writer, despite what anyone thinks(let me have my ego lol) but I wasn't trying to sell my game...just give information about it. Thanks for the comment at the end... I guess the format is a bit confusing in the post, but I don't want to hire a writer, since that's my current role in the project, and without it I wouldn't be apart of the project. I already have dialogue written for the project as well, so I'm not giving up my role. Your assessment of my ability is humbling as well :(. I've had things published before :( (not for any major publications...ego defense failing ...)Although it is a valid criticism about my delivery and presentation. I thought of all the story and character designs, and I don't want anyone else playing with the idea..
as for the format...I'll try to get it as close to that as possible in the next major write up, and this particular write up I did not write for this forum, so that might be why it seems misplaced.
And if you were to look at the end, there is a link to the recruitment thread I already posted here :)

x_x I'm blind lol.

Yeah I see what you mean about the writing thing, if you were just giving info on the game it's all good but when you're selling it you've got to write in a particular style so it intrigues the reader and what-not, I'm a writer myself so I kinda know what I'm talking about. I look forward to the next write up it should be good.
