So since this was mentioned briefly in the latest Ezine, I thought I would throw up a topic for this. Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress, and many images will be changed in the future. For example, the sprites in the above image are not mine, and I do not know who made them either. I'm just using them as a place holder for now until I can make my own.
What is Project Pokesona?
Project Pokesona came to being from the realization that Pokemon and Persona are not that different from each other. In addition to fantastic story lines that keep the player engaged, what ends up being the ultimate goal for the players is to collect all possible creatures they can. With that in mind, I set out to recreate Persona 4, adapting it to the Pokemon engine using the Pokemon Essentials Starter Kit.
What Can be Expected?
Because I'm adapting Persona's gameplay to the Pokemon engine, there are a number of changes:
- Male and female protagonists.
- Day/Night system in the TV world; while the "real world" will have the same linear progression as the original game, the TV world will be affected by Pokemon's day/night system, allowing for stronger creatures to be encountered at night.
- Capturing Personae directly; instead of dreaded Shuffle Time, players are directly fighting against and capturing Personae. Still deciding if I want all confronted Personae to be "Shadow Pokemon", or if that can even be done, to add difficulty.
- New Social Links; while based off of the Vita version, there are new Social Links and romance paths for both male and female protagonists.
- Multiples of the same Personae; while there will be no Persona fusion or a daycare function, you will be able to store a number of the same type of Persona in the Velvet Room, allowing you to develop them differently.
- One Partner at a Time; due to Pokemon's single partner mechanic, only one of your party members will travel with the protagonist at any given time. Still trying to work out level progression for partner characters. Also, Rise is a playable character.
- Extra Bosses
- Extra dungeons
- Extra map features, to make use of Pokemon abilities like Cut, Swim, Fly, ect.
- "Badges" are Max Social Links items; for example, the coffee mug from Dojima, and the wristbands from Chie. Also, maxing a social link will unlock that arcana's ultimate Persona in a given area.
- Some Content "Restored"; there will be additions made that were in the original Persona 4 game disc, but removed from the game. Mainly this is a romance path with Yosuke and the possibility of working at the Moel gas station, but there will be others.
The following I am still trying to figure out:
- Protagonist's personal stats; how they will be displayed, or possibly drop the mechanic entirely.
- Additional Velvet Room functions, if any.
What is Completed so Far?
Nooooooot a whole lot. Programming a Pokemon game without using any of the pokemon is a lot harder than I initially anticipated. The good news is all 241 Personae and bosses are programmed. The bad news is that they're the only thing I've managed to finish, and the game is currently broken because nothing is matching up with what is expected. There will not be any substantial screen shots for quite awhile as I attempt to wrap my brain around how this works.
Are there any Screens?
Yes, and I've included them here:
Female protagonist's sprite will be changed to have braids in the future; she was just a quick edit.
Yes, I hate this background; it seemed like a good idea at the time. It will be changed.
What else is there?
Aria of the Soul - A proper link to what this is supposed to sound like, now that I'm not being lazy and linking to a Tumblr post.

I admit, progress will be slow on this. I'm working on it in my off time, and work and real life take higher priority.
