Project Element

Project Element

This Is a project that me and a friend of mine are working on. We call it Project Element because we don't have a name yet for it, but the game revolves around the 7 elements of their world. (Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Darkness, Light, Twilight)

Story:
The story happens in the world of Rudiment. In the beginning of the game you get to chose your name (Default name us Fire) and it is explained what powers are used in this world and what the beings who use them are called. You see, certain humans have the ability to control on of the Six elements. (The seventh Element will not come to story until sometime in the middle of the game) A human who has this ability is called an "Elemental". There are also normal humans who train their mind and are able to use Telekinesis, they are called "Mages". Each of the Elements have their own clan, where the elementals of these elements live and enjoy their lives.
The story starts inside a rainy forest at night time. An unknown man(or woman) is seen walking towards the old man called Duskgloom, who stands in the center of the tree-circle. The unknown person talk's about a boy in a village called "Pyro", how his abilities are far superior when compared to other Pyro. The old man decides to wait and see what the boy will do, stating that he might be useful.
Meanwhile, in the Village Pyro, Fire, a young Pyrokinesis, had just woken up from his slumber, only to find out that he had overslept and is late for work. He meets with his childhood friend Eve Wolfstone, who is waiting for him in front of the shop they work at.

I'd Really love to see what you guys think about it, it hasn't gone very far, but it is my first project.

We are also looking for some people to help us with various things for the game (Like Skills, weapons, Enemies and Animations) So give me a shout if you'd want to help.

So this is all that Is done for now, Thank you and farewell.

STORY: Your story is unoriginal and sort of chiche. Needs some serious work. Add some originality, not some boring story we've seen and heard over and over again. Story is what makes a game, without it, your game will suck.

Graphics: You mapping may not be the worst I have ever seen, BUT it is still really bad. Maybe read up on some mapping tutorial and whatnot because with those maps, no one will even be intersested in your game.

Music: Please use some original tunage, please! Find some online!

I do this cuz I want to see you suceed! :D

Well from the get go everything screams generic, a main character who uses the Arshes sprite but with a bit more red, 7 elements, an enemy called duskgloom (almost thought you mixed the words dusk and gloom there) but anyways this really doesn't single itself out as something different.

You should really work on your story or at least add some back story so we have a better understanding of previous events whgich in turn help us to understand what's going to happen in the game. You really should rename the main protagonist, I mean Sasaske would work better than that, it's just far too bland, far to boring. The fact you can change it means most will, and with an RPG where the main character talks it really shouldn't be happening.

The details on characters are a bit scarce and you're really just telling us what their abilities are. And the first two screenshots, irrelevant much? The mapping in the others isn't completely awful but still not great, the room has the loads of space but nothing to do with it problem, no wait, they all do, you should post those screens in the mapping improvement thread to get more sound advice than I can be bothered to give as there is a lot of room for improvements. Develop your protagonist more and try to make him not so obviously evil and you could have something here, having him in a black costume with his face covered is pretty much telling the world he wants to conquer it, if you make him a corrupt king or some kind of warrior who could even be your friend near the start then you can at least add a little intrigue about his character and have a nice bit of enigma there.

Also, anime soundtracks, seems a little odd but hell if it works it works, I wouldn't mind stealing some for my own project, they reflect some unique atmospheres quite well.

3.) Do not Beat a Dead Horse
If you see several posts informing a topic creator of how horrible their grammar is, or if their mapping needs work, or anything else that's been mentioned several times, there's no need for you to make yet another post stating as much. The topic owner can read; there's no need to pelt them with spam.

And don't be a backseat mod. His post was legitimate and useful criticism, and not even close to being repetitive or spam.

Now see if you weren't trying to be a mod and actually read what I'd said then I've given some well structured and sound advice. If I'd merely meant to hollow points already said then I wouldn't have needed to write so much, and if I did and it was spam then a mod would've already done that, but wait, they haven't. If you had actually meant to contribute to the conversation rather than seeing a chance to show you've read the rules then you might have actually done something meaningful, instead all you have is your above failure. Reflect on these words and next time you post make it mean something. Also:

1.) Do not Spam "Empty" Feedback
Saying something to the effect of, "That looks wrong, but I can't help you," is a waste of forum space. Please tell a person why something looks wrong, even if you're not entirely sure what it is. A response like, "That doesn't look right; I'm not sure why, but I think maybe the cliffs are off somehow," is much more helpful.

Other posts that are considered empty feedback would be, "good game", "this is bad", "I don't like it", ect.

Where's your feedback?

Oh don't worry I don't expect a reply.

EDIT: Oh yeah and I happened to spend a little long while posting because I was playing crackdown and realised mid game that I really needed to say something so I could close the page.

I agree with ebhz. His feedback went far more indept and he/she pointed out some well thought out points. His/her opinions on certain things were also different. The last thing he/she did was beat a dead horse, he/she expanded and created a whole new breed of horse.

On a different note, have you decided on what battle system you are using? If not, my suggestion would be to use GTBS battle system. This would work well if you plan to do the whole elements things. You could do a thing like Disagea and the Geosystem.

For example, if someone is aligned with the fire element and is near a fire crystal, then they gain a bonus in stats or whatnot. This is a very crude example and should be edited accordingly.

Besides what others said about your mapping and other stuff, I can't say much about this. For a first project this looks pretty decent, though. I'm really not too fond of your character's names or plot but other than that nothing about this really compels me to look away. And I can see you've got a basic grasp of mapping, you just need practice and experience and it'll develop, lke your other skills. So yeah, good stuff happening here. And a general tip for inside maps (btw I used to do this alllll the time and it took me two years to realize that I was doing it): Your indoor maps are huge and they don't need to be. Shrink the size of the rooms down to make less space, it'll improve the look of the map almost every time.

If you release a demo I'd like to try it out, it's much easier to give advice after actually playing something and getting your hands on a game after all.

Tip: If you're looking to recruit some team members then elaborate on what sort of positions you're looking for, how much they'd have to do, etc. You're more like to get help if you're detailed in your recruitment than if you just say "Let me know if you want help"

Thank you guys for that :D

Well, I'd really love to recruit some people who'd want to help with this, so I guess I can give you guys an example of what I need help with.

Scripts- I suck at scripting, so it be nice if I could get help with ether scripting or choosing scripts

Map edit - I think you guy's are right about the Map having to much free space, but I kinda don't know what I should put sometimes to make up for the big empty space in interiors.

Skills - Basically, making the skills can be kinda hard so I'd love so feedback on what kind of skills I should have for each class.

------------

another thing, I think I mentioned it in my first post, but I am putting up most of the basics now and After I have finished the area, I will go into more detail on what each character say and their names and such, so I will be changing some things, don't worry about that :D

You're getting ahead of yourself, if you can't put up at least a reasonable chunk of information about all aspects of the game you shouldn't be telling others about it prematurely. You shouldn't with a premature work be looking for people to recruit either, I doubt anyone is willing to cover the basic skills of skill creation and map editting which should be a given to all RMXP/VX users. If you can't map then use the mapping improvement thread as the others have, I suck at mapping and when I get round to doing some will post in there just as well because it's the quickest way to get your skills up there.

For skills it's really just trial, error and a shitload of time, they take forever to make if you're gonna make your own ones that don't look choppy with skipped bits of animation then just do them over time, you're not gonna be using all of them from the start so there really isn't a need to hire someone to do it. Also it should reflect your story so if you hire someone and they make lightsaber battle effects for a medieval game with no magic then you are in a fix. Choosing scripts should really be done by your own discretion as you need them to reflect the world of your game so handing the task over to someone else isn't practical at all, and also if you're not sure you need a scripter then why ask for one now?

You seem to be rushing, with the release of this thread and making progress, patience is necessary as making a game solo will take a damn long while and you should at least learn how to use the tools you're using before making one, that includes learning to map and create skills as databasing unless there is a planned very large scale of it should usually be done by the creator of the project, otherwise it's not even like it's your own.

Thank you and good night.
