Problem getting others to play my games.

So, I've done all the proper steps (compressing the game and what not) and I sent it to a friend, and they try to run it and well, they can't. I've read through the FAQ and this was nowhere to be found.

Am I doing it wrong, or do all of my friends also have to own RPG maker just to play the game?

No they, don't have to own it. They just need to download the RTP. Once they have it, they should be able to play the game.
