Prince Of Persia Film: Terrible Idea or great potential?

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I just found out that Jerry Bruckheimer (producer of Pirates of the Caribean) is officially working on
a film based off of Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time. Kind of makes you wonder if it might actually be good, but then I am reminded of
the total failure of the Doom Movie, and how the creators said "It'll be good". What do you think?

Awesome Bro

Well I thought doom was kind of boring myself, and when people kept telling me about the "Amazing FPS part", wow, for like 2 minutes ! Crap really.

Hmm, PoP, it COULD be good, I mean, the games aren't half bad, if this guy can pull it off proper, I'd watch it, although I will anyway to see how it is, and besides, PotC films were really good, so hopefully this will be :thumb:

YIKES , theye'l never learn movies based on games are doomed to fail ...(atleast mostly  :shades: But I can't think of any)
Wel prince of Persia has some things to make a proper movie .. (atleast more then games like doom or RE )

Well If i get the chance I'll watch it ..
But I'll probebly rather see a movie like step-up 2 'the streets' (which was pretty cool)
or 30 days of Night .

Resident Evil have a lot of potential to make a great movie, but it changed everything to the point where the lines that were horribly cheesy in the first three games were removed. And it isn't RE without cheesy.

And I would like to note that the Silent Hill movie was alright. It's faithful to the source material, while making the effects and monsters stay true to their origins. The effects were spot on as well. The only real issue that it had was that the acting was awful. It wasn't the casting so much, it was what the script called for. Unfortunatly, while it works ingame, it didn't work well in the movie.

To me, the "goodness" of a PoP movie depends entirely on it's execution.  Video Game movies are traditionally all over the place.

From the blockbuster hits of the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Resident Evil series to the "meh"ness of Blood Rayne (I still think it was a good movie) and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, to the under appreciated Silent Hill and Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within, video game movies prove that they can be just as good as other Hollywood favorites.  On the other hand, movies like Super Mario Brothers, and Doom (I still haven't seen it) prove that not all video games translate well to the big screen.

It all depends on the story and it's execution.  I personally think that Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time could be an awesome movie... if under the tutelage of the proper director.

I think the overall problem with video game translated movies is that the overall story and the reason why it was picked gets lost
in the confusion and hurried attitudes of the filmmakers as they try to make a quick profit, instead of treating said game as a piece
of artwork or even a serious and very mature story.

Just look at Doom. The story behind Doom III is very dark, and offers up a disturbing look at hell, and it's denizens, yet when
the movie was done, the story was changed, felt like a rip off of alien, and really offered no great insight into, well, anything.

Oh wow, I forgot about the Tomb Raider movies. I liked the first one, mainly because the casting was brilliant (Angelina Jolie=Lara Croft=perfect), and who doesn't love Daniel Craig?

HOW THE HELL CAN THEY MAKE A PoP MOVIE?!

I mean the game was badass and win but if I just see some guy running across walls and stuff in a movie then nty

Hitman is also a real deal, and a good one too.

PoP aren't bad, the game itself has interesting story and characteristic. Now I'm dying to see another cinematic movie just like Advent Children.
