Sorry, but no. I don't condone the use of drugs, especially illegal.
I'm not sure how long this has been up, but I just came here today to see this.

It makes me wonder why I'm still even here, with the removal/merge of the "for hire" section into the requests/looking, and now this. In the request forum all you see is people whining about finding people for FREE for their projects, and in that mess you can't find anyone for hire at all. Time is money, and you'll learn this once you live on your own. People should receive equal payment, or trade, for their work. There's not that much time in a day.

Just, seeing this today really pissed me off.

To be fair, we still allow commisioned/paid work. I just don't think that the individual forum was getting enough use to justify its presence, so it was merged for the sake of efficiency, or something like that. In no way has anyone prohibited you from charging money.

That said, for many people, RPG Maker is just a hobby, something that people aren't going to give many real-life resources aside from their time and attention. Just as you're at liberty to request payment for your work, others are at liberty to be penniless (as a large amount of the forum's demographic is composed of minors with no real source of income,) or to donate their work for free. If someone's willing to pay for a certain piece of work, they'll say so -- don't be hating on the people who won't or can't pay. People have differing levels of dedication to the program, and different resources at their disposal. No one's forcing you to work for free.

.ORG is not condoning drug use on 4:20 any more than we are trying to convert people to Christianity during the Christmas holidays. It's for the sake of fun. You might think it's in bad taste, but I'm getting tired of people who are so inflexible that they get mad at the staff for a joke that isn't funny. I'm sorry if you were offended, but I think you may be blowing things out of proportion.

I am well aware that is is for the sake of fun, of which they are indeed having. And if this was a personal community of their's for hang-out and whatnot (and one would think that it is), it would've been perfectly cool.

However, this community is filled with 13-15 year-olds. And even to those who appreciates being "baked" once a while responsibly, I think it's not that difficult to see that preteens and early teens often do not have the mindset that adults do.

I myself do not have anything against those who do it responsibly, but this is simply something that glorifies pot in front of children on however light of a scale, knowingly. And again, I simply find that to be in quite the bad taste.

I'd have to agree with Yaoumei and Reives. I don't really agree with the whole pot leaf thing. Even if it is 4:20, which is practically a provincial holiday here in BC, it just seems kind of ...offputting. I also am not one for drugs. If others use them, that's OK, but please don't get me involved or bother telling me about it. And I agree with Reives' point about the glorification of drug use to the littl'uns. I would have said basically the same thing, but he said it better than I probably could.
Basically, I'm fine with you guys using drugs, just don't drag me into it.

Well I can understand being annoyed based on principle (also the pot leaf makes the place look like a freewebs site) but seeing that picture on a website isn't going to encourage anyone to try anything.

Edit: Actually Reives made a good point, I didn't really think about the kids on the forum but I still can't help but think it would take more than that to encourage someone to try pot.

As for the removal of the "for hire" section, it was probably just because there wasn't enough activity there to justify keeping it, there are other forums with very active "for hire" sections (although you might be better looking for someone who specialises in the work you want done) so it's not that big of a deal.

Also about the staff making jokes that aren't funny...well...yeah ok that happens...not much that can be done about that.

The forum just happens to have 12 year olds- the sign up page even states you need to be 13 to join. If you really think seeing a pot leaf is causing trouble I have no sympathy for you and what you out of the gene pool. People like you  piss me off no end.

Agreed. It's an IMAGE. Kids smoke pot anyway. This forum won't push them to or deter them from smoking if they want to. An Internet forum doesn't run people's lives. Also, this "protect the children" bullshit is really getting out of hand. The reason there are so many emo kids these days is exactly because of this. Let kids EXPLORE THINGS THEMSELVES and stop trying to baby them and whining about shit that isn't really that big a deal.

Now, of course someone, even children, will not take a look at those 10-pixel-big images and jump up, immediately dive into the dark alley and give Bob a head for some pot.

But guess what, you also do not immediately jump up and go buy a product whenever an advertisement comes up. It's a building image - something that tells children that it's cool, joining wouldn't hurt. And when one is actually mature enough, that might be perfectly true. But again, it's just the fact that children make up for a vast majority of the members here, I find it to be quite irresponsibles.

It's pointless to try and defend kids against this sort of thing, because they're getting into this shit anyway by no fault of this forum. Judging by the incredibly indignant responses that we're getting from young kids about this, I'd say this thing is going to put more people off drugs than it'll entice.

I think I saw some people tossing garbage on the street today. The street's getting tossed on anyway, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to do it as well.

Oh wait, what's that? Sweet, let's go make garbage angels!

Mind you that I have nothing against responsible druggies; you guys have fun there.

Sand angels are probably the greatest, though. Garbage angels make you smell for a while, but sand angels are just awesome.

....Whats wrong with the title bar? I'm sure most 12 year olds even know what that is. Would it of been better if they would of used a bud for the "Dot"? I'm 100% positive that they wouldn't know what that is.

And i'm glad you wasn't on at 1:00 this morning- You would of really flipped

I myself didn't know what the leaf meant until I was 16, I thought it was just like a brand logo or something.

My point was that it makes no difference anyway. You're worried that the garbage can I'm carrying might spill out onto the street and join all the other garbage there. Some idiot might take it as encouragement, but if we make everything idiot-proof there's not going to be a lot of forum left, anyway.

I suppose you're very entitled to your concerns, and anything is possible. Just know that the administration is not condoning drug use, but making fun of popular culture instead.

"Bad taste," I've learned, is (for lack of a less offensive term) a bullshit argument, because taste is entirely subjective. If everyone's going to be a catholic grandmother about this, maybe we should stop swearing in project threads because someone will find it as distasteful? We'll have to ask Venetia to cut back on the innuendo, too -- someone might be offended.

And finally, let's remove the violence and cussing from the games we make, because it might make an impression on young sponges. Personally, I am disgusted with the way this board conducts itself, and hope the administration will see the error of its ways and strive to be more family-friendly in the future.

And my point is that it does not necessarily make no difference. I believe I would instead feel annoyance when one dumps garbage into a no-dumping zone, even if there already exists a pile there.

It is great that the administration is simply making fun of pop culture in that aspect, yet the display to the younglin's are not an easy telling of satire to the group in question.

As for "bad taste"; what is not subjective? Human ethics and morals are not something carved in stone. Once upon a time, things that would be considered blatantly immoral now were considered within the moral domain. What one feel is right and wrong is merely subjective to themselves as a whole, with the factor of majority. Merely speaking out against what one believes to be in "bad taste" is nothing but a semantic to whichever you would like to substitute.
