Possible Battler Template

Erk and I are talking about trying to get a unified style for the gRTP battlers.... I thought I'd try something... but since the goal is to have something that a lot of people can do, I need feedback on how easy something like this would be to use.

If the majority of people trying things with gRTP thing this is too hard to work with, than I'll not bother making more poses. If however it appears to be something usable, lemme know and I'll try and crank some more out.

as an example of what I could do on the template:

Wow that looks great Tana. I don't think my spriting skills would be able to cope with that yet though ha. I'm sure the spriters could though, i say continue with it.

That looks great Tana, and I bet I could work with something like that. I'll give it a test run when I start my hero sprite and see how it goes. It's a great idea and should help keep things more uniform.

I like that battler Tana. It seems rather large, but, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Certainly it would be great for highly detailed battlers.

It actually is smaller than the Enterbrain RTP battlers.

Okay, I'll make a few more in the meantime, but I encourage you all to actually try a battler on this one.

^-^ My bad. LOL. Sorry Tana. I was tired when I checked it out. :(
I'm trying one out now. I'm making a game, it's posted on RRR. Since I haven't quite decided on the battle system yet, I'm willing to give new stuff a try. I'll post one when I get it completed.

It's great, and as a static battler that's a good size to pick as well - small enough that a monster that fills the screen will seem exceptionally large, etc. As per an animated starter template, though, it'd probably be better to have Half-Kaiser animations instead... but I think that's already been done muchly! :)

Yeah, that won't be animated. Erk is working out an ABS style for the HKs that can also work as a Side-View animated battler; similar to this one I started for RTP:

His method may be more universal in terms of use, but mine was just an idea.

EDIT: Added two more poses, just outline right now. Will go back and shade them in a bit.

Okay, I tried it out using a character I made for my own game, which is not up for grabs for anyone. ;) I'm not a great spriter, and I only put about an hour and a bit into this battler.
I found it very easy to use, I'm not sure I like the stance, but whatever, I see you've added new ones. All and all, I think I would seriously consider making battlers with this template if they were animated. Genuine thumbs up, good one Tana.

Ahhhh so this is what you was talking about by you and Erk making battlers...hmmmm so i guess you want me to use these templates to make battlers?

Not completely. We haven't decided on a style yet besides just the ones for the ABS/SVB and stuff. (see the HK topic, or the template topic)

If these don't wind up being for Build It!, than I'll probably still develop them for other purposes.

these are amazing, just ''perfect''.. I think it would be cool to use these for the enemy battlers, and make backviews of these to use for the hero's.

Yeah, well either way they are very nice, i was planning to make something very similar to this for my game.

Btw sorry i'm going off topic here and sorta spamming your thread, this just saves me PM...but for the battlers for the gRTP do they have to be pixel arted? or can i do normal pen and colour art for them?

Example:-

Obviously i wouldn't make it this huge though.

Thanks again.

I went ahead and seperated this out to its own topic.

Its not up to me for the style of the battler. Its Erk and Near that have the desicion....

The only reason why I didn't do antialiased work, is that mine tends to be hard for the majority of forum artists to copy....

Even tracing my pencils in pixel winds up being a bit much:

So I figured if I just made the templates and let everyone else make the actual battlers it'd be better.

Okey dokey thanks Tana, even if they go for another style then ones i will do in Antialiased will be still of use i guess ^_^

oh my I like that allot, though I'm not sure I like the principal of a Battler template as it adds a generic pose to things. However in general as a sprite those look very nice.
