Portfolio

As some of you might've already seen, I just sort of finished my portfolio site:

http://www.tomasknipscheer.nl

I think I'm going to tweak it just a tad more later on, but it's done for now.
It's a graphic design portfolio, consisting of various broad-oriented jobs, and some personal projects.
I don't know if anyone here has experience with putting together portfolio's but I'd like to know if it's well balanced etc.
And if it's interesting enough to get me a job, of course.

Here's a grasp of some work:
(some may look familiar, idk if i've posted them here..)

There's more to see on the website itself though.
Anyway, I'd like some comments, suggestions, remarks, flattering, etc.
Please be constructive.

I think your works are great, you have a great sense of colours which I can only applaud (props for the neutral colours in some of your works:D) while at the same time are incredibly original.

so my site isnt good enough to make it to your portfolio, huh

i see how it is.

(this is really awesome, i like the cracked glass one best)

i like your minimalist approach to the site.

i always want to use lightbox too, it's just so damn efficient! but i personally always worry it's cliche so i try to dev my own image viewer system and fail miserably ;x.
depending on who you're applying with it might not even matter--but if you're looking to apply with any "upscale" or "trendy" or "hi-tech" places you may want to tweak the lightbox format a bit so it's slightly less easy to distinguish from the original one on dynamicdrive. if you're applying with anyone else i doubt they'd notice or care.

the site itself is def a contrast to much of your work. i worry a number of your logos and photomanips have too much going on--but i'm rather oldschool about negative space and making shit compatible with multi-format printing (incl thermography and screening). which obv doesn't need to be considered for web-only company logos etc anyway.

in the end though your portfolio shits all over most of the ones I browse! and certainly all over mine, which is non-existant ;x

if you're going for non-web corporate graphic design at all though, you may want to throw up some additional typesetting samples--like signs, mastheads, advertisements.

sorry I can't be constructive at all because I don't know shit about design but it's all extremely appealing, the art and design both! this is probably my favorite but it's all really great.

heh thanks, personally i think colors are my weak spot, and i am trying to improve on those, but i like how you see that the other way around.. ;D

Yeah i thought about the lightbox thing too (it's shadowbox btw but same thing basically) however, it'll do for now, i'm just trying to get a part-time (2 days in a week) job for some extra cash while im still in school, and to get some basic experience. I'll develop a new site whenever I have to apply for something more serious. I'm still learning javascript, and flash, and I don't think i'll be able to develop something completely custom at the moment. Got a couple of years before I get my degree though, so I'll just wait and learn.

Also yeah, a couple of my works are below par, and I just threw them in there for diversity and to show i have experience with all kinds of projects.

Anyway, thanks. ;D I really hate having to put together a portfolio, I'm glad most of it is done. I wanted to include some more, but that can wait.

Btw I'm currently developing a typeface, for the Multividual identity, it's not for long text, but for decoration and titles and stuff..

attempt 1: http://www.multividual.nl/type/Hh.png

After a comment that the lowercase h looked like an elephant behind a tree:
http://www.multividual.nl/type/h1.png

however, that was a pain in the ass, so i started anew, this time heavily relying on an already existing font, I quickly threw together some characters: http://www.multividual.nl/type/2full.png

this is not the final version though, will start again and again and againnn you'l lhear from it

;D

aaaanyway

is it ok if i refer to this page?

YOU made the cookie thing? Huh, I've seen it before somewhere! (Then again you probably linked to it and I just didn't know it was you that made it.) Good stuff!

oh btw if anyone was wondering if the site helped
i got offered a job by a client of a friend of mine who saw my work
so i took it

im now officially a part-time graphic designer
