Is it supposed to have two or four pillars?
If it is four then you will need to get rid of the top line at the pedestal base since it cuts through the pedestals, also you would need to put tops onto the front two and move the back two to one side slightly.

If it has only two then are they at the back or the front of the pedestal?
if it is at the front then you will need to still remove the pedestal lines.

Also if you download gimp you could use one of their textures and give it an improved feel.

its only two pillars, the pillars goes down behind the base.

Gimp is a good program but i only shade in paint

But it would be easier to shade in GIMP, wouldn't it? You have filters and brushes then, not just single-pixel drawing.

I find that stone is really hard to shade, that might just be me but I don't know. Other than that I don't really have much advice because I can't shade well myself...

'tis nice, albeit a little bland. As many before me have said, GIMP it up with a few textures, just because you like pixel art doesn't mean you can't use other programs ^_^

Try making a shimmery Characterset to go with this too, that way it'll be more portal-y

I find that using a mix of both gimp and paint works quite well.
I usually get the base of the sprite done in paint and then I use the various features in gimp (lighten, darken, burn, soft light) to do the shading with.
And the texture fills are always fun

Just threw this together. I hope it helps.
I erased the extra lines from the pedestal, you can see that the top of the two pillars are shaded lighter than the sides.
I also tried to keep in line with your other shading scheme.

Let me know what you think

yes thats what i mean it doesnt suit my characters shading style i have it all old and stony like, thats why it takes time

Then how about this?

I kept the original color scheme, added a shadow to the bricks and the steps (on the left and top side of the left step, and darkend the right step while adding a bit of light to get past the stage area.)
Darkened the pillars a lot to show they were in the shade also, but kept the top bright as they would be the closest to the light. (however I think that a bit of ornamation like sigils or runes or something would greatly enhance them.)

You just got to keep in mind where the light is comming from.

btw did all that in gimp.

Fate, even if you decide not to put shading in your game i would still strongly advice some textures. For example on the floor a stone effect. That would really make it look alot better.

The tops of the pillars look fine, thats more of a texture based with shading to enhance it. The shading is the play of light upon the fixture rather than the detail itself.
Hope it helps ;)

Hmmm. I think the ground tiles would look better if you made them 32x 32, that way you can add more detail to them. the golden colored ones are just too obtrusive to be honest. I think it would look better as a darker warm gray than the pillars.

actually..what is this an add on to?

nice detail. The columns look dull but thats because theyre unfinished i guess. One word of advice is don't get too detailed. It will look out of sync with the charsets. Nice work though.
