Portal 2

So surprised there's not already a thread for this. Portal 2 came out a couple days ago, and I'm only about an hour in to it. What are your guys's impressions and discoveries? Valve did an excellent job with characterization and writing. I like GladOS and really love Wheatley. I think this is one of the best games I have ever played.

(i would add more content, but i'm in class right now and don't really have the time.)

It is tooooo eeeeaaaaassssyyyy.

Other than that, though, loving it.

I am not getting the "beatable in 4 hours" thing popping up around Metacritic?

Like even on speed run, if you know all the puzzles already, it would still be longer ...

I mean I really like to waste time and notice details and smell the roses, so my playthrough's probably on the long side, but there's no way a 1st playthrough could be ~4 hours for anyone unless they're cheating or something :I.

I have been playing it on the Ps3 until yesterday my son decided he was gonna continue off my save. Making me not see the levels between or story. So I started a new one this morning. I made it quite a ways through this morning in only an hour.

idk why people always want to have hard games tbh as long as its really fun it shouldn't matter
and portal is more of a "whoa that shit was awesome" game to me

Awesome Bro

To be honest with you, I prefer easy games, I mean, sure a challenge is a challenge, but if a game is too hard it can cause stress, like trying to get a perfect against Seth on Street Fighter IV, impossible. I like games to be easy so I can relax while playing and enjoy the game instead of getting stuck in one area, repeating it over and over while stressing, then get bored and leave it.

Portal 2 finally finished downloading but I haven't even started it yet, lol... although I WILL get around to it, my brother has been playing it beside me and I've tried not to watch him but some areas look REALLY fun, gonna' co-op with him sometime, lol.

My kids have been playing the co-op. They are quite good. They(my kids) tend to try and kill each other in the process though. So after awhile they get frustrated because of non-co op behaviour.

yes, the game is indeed too easy.. however, i think the easiness comes from the fact you've got a partner (i haven't played story yet) and if you can't figure something out, he/she typically can. this was the case with me and my friend who played through. some missions made 100% sense to me and he would just be "herp??" and then others he'd get right away and i'd be like "derp.."

But if you beat a Nintendo Hard game, (Gradius, anyone?) you get serious bragging rights. So there is a tradeoff. However, Portal 2 is incredibly fun, and I'm absolutely shocked that they somehow broke the law of sequels and made it even better than the first.

Also guys, a few notes before you go rushing off into co-op. It's sorta intended to be a sequel to single player, so if you don't like getting at least a few hints of how single player went, skip it until you've beat it on your own. Another thing to note is that, the first time you do co-op, try to stick it out all the way to the end. If you've beaten co-op already and then go through the calibration phase with someone who's never done co-op, you get an achievement for it.

i've decided not to touch the co-op until the single player campaign is done.

there are a LOT of new concepts & mechanics introduced here. i can only assume that people will go batshit insane with it once the level editor is released.

but about liking easier games -- it is a PUZZLE game. it should be harder. or maybe have some optional extra puzzles that are like ridiculously hard.

though there is a lot more variety here than with Portal 1, and the puzzles, for the most part, are more interesting & humorous.

i've found myself lol'ing many times.

you have a good point but ridiculously hard puzzles aren't my thing; too frustrating! (and i dont want to play a game to be frustrated ;X)

I've been hearing a lot about this game but I have no idea what it's all about. :/ (their website doesn't give a lot of info imo)
This is like a puzzle game or something right?
Is it really that good¿

just beat it.

holy crap, so a couple things

1) the ending credits song isn't as good as portal 1. not bad, but.. nowhere near as good as still alive
2) the final boss fight was cool and friggin epic. it potentially opens up where portal 3 could take place
3) ?????
4) i had this deep feeling of.. emptiness after i beat it. i was not expecting the reaction and outcome

glados as a potato was friggin hilarious, and the part where cave johnson is talking about lemons.. so funny

Oh, right. I guess for a puzzle game that's not bad.

Any sign of a sort of orange box type dealie with some other games bundled in? I heard great things about the OB but didn't have a current gen console to give a fuck at the time.

Very enjoyable.

The game took me roughly 6 hours to complete. Maybe I am just good at solving puzzles. Now that I have beaten it I think I could solve those puzzles far faster and win it faster. However, I have now started the co-op levels with my kids and made it to section 4. I have spent the last 6+ working on those. So yeah, you get about 12+ hours out of it.

I enjoyed the ending as well. ".... I'm in space!"
