Port Town MP3

UPDATE!
Port Town - REVAMP

Okay, people have complained and I've finally got off my butt (well, not really...I stayed a bit after composition class) and I'm going to be converting my MIDIs into audio.

Port Town - Click to Listen
Programs Used:
Noteworthy Composer (for composing the song)
Digital Performer 4.5 (for mixing the MIDI)
Reason 3.0 (for converting into audio, used it's samples too)
iTunes (for converting into MP3)

Basically too many programs. I need to find a way to consolodate this.

Tell me what you think...I'm not ready to upload this in the download manager because I'm thinking of tweaking stuff depending on how people like it.

Hey Lene, I really like this one ^_^ and I probably would've never noticed it if you kept it as MIDI. :P

The only thing I could see is that chime is a bit loud and can get on ones nerves if you listen to it too much. Other than that, this is a really good piece.

I only use two programs: NoteWorthy Composer for the composition, and GoldWave to record to a wav, edit it, and then finally convert it to a different format like an mp3.

Lene, you are very talented.
A little suggestion, to me it seems you didn't blend the instruments a lot.
Well, I mean, the pizz. strings per example, make their volume a bit higher.
Also the oboe pan it a bit towards the right to get a better sound and in overall add a bit of reverb since it sounds very dry.
But in overall the melody is great. I would add some cymbals, and the timpani, hmm, nevermind.
Keep the good job!

This is a pretty neat song. I agree with FotT about the oboe (or whatever it is, it's not a great patch, but it sounds double reedy), it could use a bit of reverb to give it a bit more depth. The pizzicato strings sound okay to me, though. :)

The muted triangle? over the beginning is a little annoying though. ;)

Overall a very nice song.

Awesome Bro

Wow Lene, this song is great, I may even be able to fit it in my game somewhere, If its okay with you.

Also, do you take music requests ?

@jbrist - If I know Lene well enough, then it's a no.

Lene, this song sounds great. I like the mood of it a lot. I'm no audio nut, so I can't give it a proper criticism, but I really do like it.

The opening section sounds so much better without that muted triangle dominating everything. But that double-reedy instrument (can't tell if it's an oboe or some sort of pipes [I would say a rackett, but I'm sure you don't have a patch for that :p ]) is really grating. I don't know if it's intentionally supposed to sound like that, but I don't really like it. Overall, though, still a nice piece.

What I did to get that sound was layer the oboe melody with a piccolo melody (an octave higher). It's not a real instrument, but I wanted to make that part have a brassy, rough "umph" it didn't have with just the oboe.

I agree, actually, with Kolo though. There's alot of similarity between the Mp3 and the MIDI version. This is a great piece, but to make it stand out, hence you're using alot of orchestral instruments in there, everything could use a reveerby touch to it, and dynamics can help the mood -alot-. There's no rule to how you use it, but a static volume pulls out the potential in this theme.

It kind of reminds me of that weird brassy instrument from Final Fantasy VII (a good example of it is in Barret's theme). I remember playing with the dls from that game and it is actually the French Horn patch. If you have access to it, maybe you should try it out, it's a pretty neat patch.
