Player Housing/Redecorating system using events!

Hey everyone.

This is a system built using events that allows a player to own a home and redecorate it by moving the furniture.  I've made a demo that's pretty easy to reverse engineer until you've got it figured out.  If you'd like a detailed text tutorial, I'll edit the post, but for now I'll leave you with the demo link and some screenshots.

FEATURES:

  • Lantern - A simple on and off for the lights in the house.
  • Record Player - A piano that plays music and even changes the lighting effects.
  • 8 movable pieces of furniture to move around.
  • A separate EDIT MODE that allows the players to select and move furniture (more in the future)

More features are coming soon.  I'll be adding the following:

  • A dresser to keep collected and changeable clothing in.
  • Moveable items will glow when in EDIT MODE.
  • A storage room to hold unused furniture.
  • A store to purchase more furniture.
  • Some items will hold items, or enhance the living environment for the player. (ie.  A stove can cook food, or a bed can add bonus stats and restore hp)
 
You know that when you're moving items, you can turn back to your normal self while you're inside the walls, right?

Otherwise, pretty solid system. It's pretty simple too, but things like a storage room will be hard to pull off, unless you have something in mind that I can't seem to think of. Hope you get this working right.
 
Yeah.  The walls glitch is something I can probably fix pretty easily.  I'll probably just make it transfer the player back to the center of the room.  Or in the doorway. 

The storage room will be tough depending on how many items are available.  However;  The worst part about the system is that I have no idea how to save the event positions... I'm sure there's a script, or some other way to do it, but when you leave the map and reenter it, the furniture is back in it's original position.

@Chalupa:  lol  Thank you.  I've been trying to get that point across for years.
@Nahchito:  No, it's not encrypted, you can use the map, events, and everything.  Just toss me some credit if you use the system.  And the system will work just the same for XP, but I don't plan to convert it myself.  If you'd like to and want it uploaded, pm me the link and I'll post it. (if you'd like.  I'd appreciate it, and of course give YOU credit.)

well i made a system but in that system you cannot move or rotate the objects.
although it does stay when leaving a house and save, Quit game, then start up and enter the house again.
it will stay as i have left.

but is it only events or does it use scripts too?
 
I am making a version for XP right now, and it wil be with the "Anti - event lag" from Zeriab and I also need a "Map state save" script that saves the map's events. Just wait, it will be done in about 2 days or so. I need to make a function with a dresser, Furniture shop, ... Wait, that are all things that are missing right now.
So I try to complete this in XP. Is that allright with you, Mikee?
 
I don't see why you'd need a script to keep everything's location. Just have an X variable and a Y variable for every object in the house and have it update when you exit edit mode and whatever. Nice job on this btw.
 
I'm pretty sure you can use Set Event Location and have the destination be that event's specific X and Y location. It should work, but if it doesn't upload screenshots of the event pages and I could elaborate. :)
 
Wierd. I haven't been on here in a while, obviously, but just a minute ago I came up with the exact same x,y idea to save the object's positions. I was just going to get on here so I could get the download link because I'm on a new computer and don't have the project anymore.

I'm going to work on this tonight, so hopefully I'll have an awesome updated version in the morning. I'm working on a game with the working title: The Heroe's Hero. It's about a kid who's always dreamt of being a hero, but misses the craze by a few years and now there's an abundance of heroes and not enough shops to keep them supplied, so you change your profession and open a shop. You can choose whether it's a pub, restaurant, blacksmith, general store, or a combination, and eventually you'll be able to own more than one. So this system will be a must while decorating your store AND your home. Hopefully I'll get some cool additions put on this tonight.

And if there are any requests to go along with this, even if it doesn't have to do with the furniture objects, please just let me know.
