Planning on Buying a Laptop

Well...uh, make sure the laptop has a screen...and a keyboard XD
lol i dont know...
try to get a pretty fast one with wondows XP on it (dunno if they still sell those after Vista)... Vista has some compatibility issues.

Toshiba and Sony Viao's are supposedly the best right now. Toshiba's are nice and durable, and from my experience, work really well. Viao's are pretty much the same thing, only they usually come with more features, making them more expensive. And they're made by Sony. Obviously.

I'd say don't settle for anything with under a gig of ram.

If you find an OUTSTANDING deal on a refurbished, then do it. If it's cheap enough just think of it as a throw-away temporary computer.

It's been a while since big advances were made in laptops, I might wait, I expect some big changes to be right around the corner, I'd say now's not a good time to buy.

(I did that for my girlfriend, she was about to buy an ipod, I told her it had been a long time since new ones came out, and that new ones were around the corner. she waited, and now the 80GB are $100 cheaper and have metal bodies. ha. I'm good. 8-)

It kinda depends on what you want your laptop to do...

Sony VAIOs really are only good for impressing business clientelle. Their prices are usually over the top and they're just as functional as their counterparts from other brands. But they're good accessories - they're usually stylish.

If you want to use a study laptop get a cheap toshiba one.

For arts and design? Go get an Apple.

For gaming, go get a desktop.

Awesome Bro

I got a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo last month and it runs like a dream! Saying that, It runs for the things I use a computer for like photoshop and video editing. I play WoW on it from time to time and the frame-rate isn't amazing, but It's definately playable.

My specs are a 1.73 dual core AMD

120GB SATA HD

2GB RAM

DVD burner etc etc

Built in wireless

Fan control and shiz.

It's pretty perfect and I bought it from work so I got a 10% discount. Woop woop!

This is the closest I could find for my lappy:

I agree with this. I've been using my Fujitsu Lifebook N3511 for two years and it's generally capable of doing a helluva lot. It's a decent gaming machine as well for the price. I'm able to play most high end games with mid-range settings without a problem, and I've only had to reformat once. So I'd say go with Fujitsu.

Also, ignore Mega-Flare. Blu-ray is a rip off :p

I've had really good experience with HP/Compaq. If you can, try and get Windows XP rather than Vista.

A mac would actually be a really solid choice, but if you're not familiar with them it might not be your first choice. Not a lot of programs are compatible with macs (but the same can be said for vista haha) but if you're not worried about that I'd suggest it.

Toshiba really has problems with it's batteries on certain models. I would go for a Dell, in my opinion. Dell Inspirons and XPS's are the hottest ones right now and you choose what color you want it in. I got me a Dell Desktop but with my experience with it's laptops they're the most best ones you can get.

And hollo I think what he means is it decreases his speed because vista takes up a lot of memory especially with Superfetch which caches a lot of frequently used programs into the memory so they can be called up faster.

@Stevo, that was Tesco? What price (before discount)?

Hey man, Sorry ... only just noticed you asked me.

It doesn't appear to be on the website anymore. I tried checking every page of the laptop section but it returned not one fujitsu. I then tried going to the bookmark I set before I bought it and it's no longer there.

Maybe they're just sold out? Who knows. I only bought it like 5 weeks ago so I doubt it's discontinued.
