Plaine FR
(A side project, will start it after Plaine is finished.)

Yes, the game is called Plaine FR, it has nothing to do with a Plane though, I would call it Plain FR, but it doesn't sound as good.

Basically, since I just got RMXP again, my old computer is f***ed and I've lost all data on it, Plaine will be a game using everything that comes with the normal RTP, which means no scripts, no custom sprites or tilesets, the only custom thing will be the Title screen.

Idea:
I got this idea about 10 minutes ago when I wanted to make a game but had none of my old resources etc., so I
decided to make one based only on the RTP, this way, no one can complain about the graphics, as it is RTP Standard, hehe.

Story:
[You (\n[1]) choose which class you want, and male or female], and then basically, it's like a free roaming RPG, You can do sidequests for people, and just level up yourself outside of the towns, just imagine it like an MMORPG such as WoW or Runescape, or even MapleStory: Doesn't have a storyline, just a free roaming RPG with side quests.

Yes, this may sound boring, but hey, it's a change to the usual RPG's with the same ol' storylines, you wake up, go save a city or the world by going into a cave, blah blah the end your now king. I find them kind of boring, so a free roam could be good to some of you.

Features:
None really, except you get to join the Plaine Clan (Yes, Plaine is a Clan), and might put some evented features in.

Now compatible with Windows XP and Vista !
It can also be played by people without the RGSS Player !

Idea: The idea of this game came to me the same was as Plaine FR did, when I lost my data from my old computer, and wanted to make a new game, this is the game, it will use ONLY RTP stuff which means no scripts or custom items.

Story:
As you start the game, after inputting the name, gender, and class of your character, you are in a room with 5 Thieves, they are a cult that believe sacrificing you will make god welcome them to heaven, they aren't a main point of the game, just something to introduce your characters.
As they are about to kill you, a mysterious Lancer (With skills/spells too lol) jumps in and saves you.
After this cutscene, he tells you that he is from a clan, which is located in an area called Plaine, they are a secret group of people who each have their elemental powers and are in the middle of a war with the various cults etc. around the world of Etherdal (May change name).
You are able to join the Plaine clan, which is the main storyline, which you have to join anyway.
This man, (Hasnt got a name yet), tells you which direction to head, to get to their base/headquarters, and then he jumps away, From here, your journey is through a big forest that is filled with enemies, some are easy to fight, others are hard.
Once you get to the Base/HQ, you are assigned positions, and then given the choice to use an element, there are four to choose from and each party member can have one, but must not have the same.
From here on it is basically a free roam, which means I may cancel Plaine FR and just have it as one project as suggested.

Sidequests:
The sidequests can be small ones such as deliveries, or killing a certain amount of monsters, while some can be large ones with their own storyline, which will be quite unique.

Main quest:
The main storyline of the game is to go around stopping all these cults as they are kidnapping people and trying to sacrifice them, although, one of the cults actually manage a successful sacrifice, but say the wrong words, which opens up a portal to the underworld, and you and your team go to investigate.
While inside you are faced against by monsters and also puzzles that you must solve to find out how to close this portal (Oblivion I guess), there ARE still some villages in the underworld, although they aren't the most friendly as they are monsters.
The lord of the underworld, the Lich King, is the reason as to why this portal opened, he explains how he will be using these souls to harvest the elemental power, as to which he is weak against, and use it upon the world of Etherdal, because, although he doesn't want to show it, he is jelous that we can live together piecefully and use these elements everyday.

Lich Kings Background (Requested by second_crimson):
Centuries ago, the Lich King, formally known as King Ahrbon, came across the elemental ores of the planet, but found out that he could not contain it around his body, so he left it and returned back to his kingdom, he realised that he had been living around these elements but his weakness had only just triggered inside his body, so he decided that in order to live, he would have to move away from all of these elements, and stay somewhere they were never in use, so he hid inside a cave, he stayed here for many years, hunting without equipment and learning to survive, until one day, a crack in the rock had a red light shining through it, so he peered in, it was a fire element, the rock exploded and because his body had made contact with the element and the effects made him mutate into a skinny lightskinned creature, still able to maintain the human anatomy, he felt better this way, although he was still weak towards the elements, and he felt as if he would explode every second, the managed to maintain this state, and ran into the crack, where a portal to the core of the planet lay, he hid away down there, and noticed that the elementals had also mutated into monsters and orcs etc. and from this day on, they have been his army, the core is now his kingdom, his kingdom is the underworld.

When the elements are set off, you must get back to the surface and stop each one from destroying your home world, you are assigned a town or city to look after, and make sure that the elements don't do any harm to the people, the only way necessary, Fight them !

Battle System:
The battle system will be as standard, unless I have time to event a battle system, but because you each have elemental attacks, you need to be careful and choose the elements weakness, otherwise you'll be healing it and making it stronger, which isn't a good thing.
Another (Feature might not be the word) thing about the Battle system, is that when you enter the city or town, it comes up as a Battle Zone, which means you can attack Civilians, however these will end up giving bad consequences.

What is Plaine? (Requested by second_crimson):
Plaine is a location, which has a clan, in which the members are on constant quests and missions to rid the planet of the cults, They are good, not evil, they have a base/headquarters of which they host missions and quests (When you are the highest rank you can generate missions and choose three people to come with you !)

Screenshots:
At the moment, I'm only releasing two screenshots, although I will compile a small demo for you all to try out and give feedback,
These screenshots are from the VERY beginning where you create your character:

I will edit this with more info when I've started making it.

This seems...very bland.

I'm a big fan of free-roaming games, so I like the first one. Personally I think as long as gameplay is good, story can take a back seat.

However, your second idea...it's...well it needs some polish. First of all, what is the Plaine Clan? What do they want? What is their motivation? Are they a thieves guild? A mercenary group? A ninja clan? They shouldn't attack for no reason. Any reason is better than none. Mayhaps they wish to steal something? Maybe someone hired a hit on the character?

Also, don't feel like you must conform to typical RPG formulas. You don't HAVE to stick with four elements. You can get more by combining them (Water+Air = Ice, Water+Fire = Lightning) or just invent new elements (Time, Death, Nature). You don't have to have a big bad villain. And if you do, please give him a REASON to torment the world? Does he think he's a god and uses this monster as a means to judge the world? Did he lose someone he loved and seeks to harm the world that took them away? Once again, something is better than nothing.

You CAN show timers. There's a whole function in RMXP for it. Can't remember where, but it's in the event commands. And while we're on that topic, I will say I do enjoy the idea of timed sections of the game...but it's not a good idea to time so many parts of the game. One or two sections are usually sufficient.

Both of these ideas can become good games, but they really need a whole lot of polish and editting. Quest ideas for the first, a working story for the second.

As an aside: Plane and Plain are words. Plaine is not. Also, it is best to be consistent with your spelling. You're, your, there, their, they're. These are all seperate words with seperate meanings. Apostrophes will NOT bite you. You can use them.

Please don't take my criticism as a flame, or an attack on your project(s). I'm just trying to help.

you cannot explain a game by saying: it will be sorta like this, you know?...
you should be certain of what's the game about and how to explain it to everyone, so we get interested in your project.
Also posting some pictures would be nice, apart the fact your text needs some organization, and the background story is too simple.
Revamp it a little, organize your presentation, add pictures, and it will be more interesting.

I will add screenshots when I've made more progress, and my Internet is slow so Imageshack won't load so I can't post the logo as a header.

I'm not too sure why you need to make two seperate games for the story. If done right, you could just make one, and let the player free roam and do the quests whenever they like.

Agreed, my game is a free roamer, but has a story arc (several by the end). Combining the two together would serve a much better purpose as well as giving you one project to focus on. :)

Seems like this game will be fairly effortless to complete, seeing as you're keeping plot and innovation to a minimum.

I'm interested, but not because it seems like it would be fun to play; instead, I'd like to see exactly how a game that uses only the RTP (and no additional scripts! >:0) would turn out. I saw a demo project that accomplished around the same thing on the Japanese side of RMXP's site, but as the text was in indecipherable Japanese, it would only offer half the experience a game in normal Miekspeak would. After all, games are a literary tool too!

(Well, if you're a good writer...)

Anyway, this seems like an interesting experiment. I'm not sure how I feel about someone "phoning it in," so to speak, with a game that won't take any real effort besides the usual maps and eventing, but I'll try to ignore any inner grumbling that might occur.

Update:
I'll post a SHORT demo of the introduction, which includes naming yourself, and your three friends, the cutscene, which at the moment has no music, and maybe just add a little freeroam map for battles, thinking of eventing a sideview battle system but we'll see...

Rewritten the story so the game has changed, I decided the first one would be too easy so I decided to scrap it and rewrite the story, still adding some parts though, check it out !

Just a few passing thoughts on this new version (I guess you'd call it that):
How do people gain these elemental powers? Is it being blessed by an elemental spirit? Touching a crystal? Studying? Also, I understand why you'd want all party members to have different elements, but what is the rationalization for that, in the game world? Or perhaps you just choose your main character's element, and the others automatically choose the other three? (Sorta like pokemon)

Also: Lich King and Oblivion are names that you might want to change. They evoke very popular fantasy games (Warcraft and Elder Scrolls respectively) and you don't want to make it seem like you're ripping them off.

No, I didn't say it WAS oblivion, I said that it's like oblivion, lol, and the Lich King, theres already a monster called Lich, so I thought, meh, Lich King, why not.

Also, second_crimson, has my story improved etc ?

I figured you weren't going to call it Oblivion, but I wanted to make sure. Instead of Lich King, what about Revenant King? Or Lord of Undeath? I mean, I'm not gonna stop you from calling him Lich King if you prefer.

The story is much better. It seems to have a little bit more structure and direction, while still having the potential for being more open ended. I'd like to see a little more development on the Lich King. Maybe give him a bit more of a backstory...why is he jealous of our elemental power and ability to have peace? Did he used to be living, and couldn't use the elemental power? Did he lose someone to the wars/monsters of the underworld?

Wow. Not too shabby.
And o.0 @ Plaine
Now compatible with Windows XP and Vista !
It can also be played by people without the RGSS Player !
